  • Just wondering as I couldn't see a topic on this, does any one know if there is a way to rotate an objects orientation such as a spaceship at set points along a func train path? or somthing like it.

Thanks if any one knows this,

  • Nope, that's not possible :( You can move the func_train along target_positions, but it won't turn in it's path.

  • Thats a shame, I can attach the ship to a rotate function but it then goes in a circle (giving the illusion that its turning and has this horrible judder. looks like its stationary for the time being.

  • Depending on the complexity of your train path, you could try to use func_vectormamamam.
Solid entity that moves according to the movement of multiple given entities (max 4)

I linked the sharks this way in Treasure Island, so they don't just move along the train path, but also bob from side to side.

  • Thanks sev, I saw that function but as I only got into mapping a week or two back I haven't learned how to use all the functions, is there a tutorial for the vector one somewhere?

    Thanks

  • Also just downloaded treasure island to see the shark(and birds) I see what you did with the paths, very clever. Are those tree leaves are patch meshes? Ive been looking at the patch meshes for making a more aesthetically pleasing arches and roofs. Do you thing this adds to server lag?

  • The palm trees are models made with blender.

About the patch meshes, you may want to have a look at some tutorials:
    http://www.wolfensteinx.com/surface/tut ... urves.html

In general they don't drag down performace too much, as long as you don't overdo it.

The func_vectormamamam works quite simple. You can target with it other moving brushes, and it then combines the movements of all its targets.
For example, if you target a brush that is bobbing up and down, and one that is bobbing left and right, the func_vectormamamam brush will move from top right to bottom left (or the other way around, depending where they start).

  • Thanks for that these good resouces are spread all over the net, after I posted I found more ;), this is what i just used to learn how to make an arch way, (bottom of page)

and also came across these for building pipes,

Will have a look at blender, I've used 3DsMax but the interfaces are so different, probably will look out for a book for that one. Thanks for explaining how func_vectormamamam works, strange name.

Ther's no need to buy a book to learn blender, Decoy! Just have a look at
http://wiki.blender.org and there's a lot of material for you( manuals, scripts, tutorials
    regarding every field:modeling, texturing, etc.)!
Then, if you want, you can buy a book (maybe to help Blender Foundation too! :P )

  • Thanks for the site, I actually prefer a book, because it saves on the eyes, the essentials book is fairly cheap. Looking at your gallery, awsome work, off topic take a look at lightbox 2 instead of pop-ups.

  • Taiyo.UK is owner of haosredro and is part on Nexuiz community. You could ask him directly.
