Nex-Ball?!

  • I know I know..

    But this is a grate idea..
    Think of American-Football for Nexuiz...

    Its a team game, 2 teams one ball, 2 Gouls.
    The ball is a "Cell" and u shoot it with the Granade-Loungher or the Electo..
    the gouls is a trigger/entety (Red_goul and Blue_goul) that wen hit by the ball or a person holding the ball. If the Player_Team == Goul_Team then Player_Team gets -1 in score, if Player_team =! Goul_team then Player_team gets +1 in score...

    the maps can be deviced in eny matter, just that the boll is spawnd in the midel os the 2 gouls..
    eny ideas?

    Edit:

    start with no wepons.
    when Player gets ball, get wepon Electro (with 1 ammo).
    when player ammo == 0 loos wepon.
    when player shoot "ball", ball becomes an item. // mush code !!!!!

    ("ball" code)

    If player_red holds the ball and hits the Goul_red, blue feam gets points.
    If Player_blue Holds the ball and hits the Goul_blue, red team gets points.
    If Player_red holds the ball and hits the Goule_blue, red team gets points.
    If Player_blue Holds the ball and hits the Goul_red, blue team gets points.

    If player_blue shoot the ball at Goul_blue, red team gets points.
    If player_red shoot the ball at Goul_red, blue team gets points.
    If player_blue shoot the ball at Goul_red, blue team gets points.
    If player_red shoot the ball at Goul_blue, red team gets points.

    now to turn that in to code... to bad that Nexuiz/DP does not suport scripting, in lua or perl or phyton :-/
    but that would not help me eny wat... i cant pogram... mor then hellow world i c........dot..

  • Kind of like in UT2k4? ;)

    I think it sounds really neat. If the maps were made well enough (not straightforward so you can just hop around and get from one end to another easily) it could turn out to be a good blend of action and strategy.

    now... i need to lern programing.... i get confused by all the files in the gamesource...

    if "I" make somthing like this, the maps can be used for CTF to.

    The game type name is ganna be NB, NexBall, or just Ball?

    But, a few things, it's called "Goal":P
    Anyways, I think Grebade Lancher suits this better than electro, since throwing a ball isn't a linear movement, but rather a curve

  • ... well i can edit the physics of the projectile.
    not i just need to think of a way to "tackel" players...

    how aboute that the wepons primery fire is "tackel" and secondary is shoot the cell (if the player has the "cell").

    and if u are wondering what a "cell" is it is the ammo to the enegy wepons (Electro Nex CryLink)

  • One thing that I disn't like about bombing run in UT2kX is that the bots don't play it well. They try to play it like American Football but it would be far better if they played it like Rugby (rather than passing the ball up the field, run with it and when you're about to go down, pass it back down a line to your side). That tactic works so much better.

    agen does not exist inte the source directory...

    sins i am not a programmer, o do not think i can make a mod like this... it is a realy a big poject to take on...
    the ball is a power cell that is shoot out as a projectile that becomes an object.. now u se the problem?...
    well... one flag ctf? (like in DigitalPaintball2 By DigitalPain)
    but more fun by usin BIG maps!
    but then we come across the problem of texture blending...
    the best way to solv this if to make a realy big texture(that fits the map).but that will couse texture buffer to go out of its "mind"....(right ?)

    I think the easiest way to start is to create a directory 'Nexuiz/mymod' and extract the file 'Nexuiz/sources/gamesource20060614.zip' into it so that you will have the following directories:
    Nexuiz/mymod/qcsrc/client
    Nexuiz/mymod/qcsrc/common
    Nexuiz/mymod/qcsrc/menu
    Nexuiz/mymod/qcsrc/server
    The first three can be ignored for now.. If you change something in the code just cd into the server directory and start the quakec compiler fteqcc (you need a uptodate version to make it work). With this directory structure the compiled file progs.dat will automaticly be created in Nexuiz/mymod.
    All you need to start you mod is to use the parameter -game mymod.
    For example right click on nexuiz.exe, choose 'create shortcut', rightclick on the newly created shortcut and choose 'properties'. Now append -game mymod at the end of the line 'target'. Make sure there is a space between the old content and the -game..
    Unless you did something wrong you are now playing your mod..
