  • Thx ai, nice pack! I like the metal category very much! But why didn' t you put them under the Creative Commons License? Isn't it much better for artistic works (I thought that gpl license were used only for code)? However compliments, a great gift to the community!

  • It must be GPL for inclusion with Nexuiz, as one item (the "game") must have one single license and the code is GPL.

If you ask kindly, maybe ai will dual license it as GPL or CC-BY-SA (possibly -NC) ;)
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • @divVerent I'm sorry if my question seemed to be an unkind request but it was only curiosity
because I didn't know all the aspects of the GPL license!

yeah, but then it would be dual-licenced under CC and GPL.

How would that even work then, as CC doesn't allow for money to be made while GPL does. It would be weird.

People would pick one license or the other, whichever they preferred. Mozilla does this with their MPL.

Yes. By releasing as GPL, you are insisting that anyone who uses it provides anyone else they distribute it to with full access, regardless of what they want to do with it, as long as they provide others with the same full access.

So in short, you give GPL to the world, you can't give it to individuals or groups.

Personally, I don't worry about this noncommercial stuff, because I have armed FOSS projects with the same ammunition as the commercials (and only indies would use GPL content anyhow). And I don't worry about attribution, because I'm confident the projects that are big and well known will give attribution for whatever they use anyway. You just don't get big being a bunch of shits in a world where you depend on volunteering.
