This has been bothering me for quite some time.

I don't really like the currently used in-game font(s), and it's quite disappointing that the charset only supports English (as far as I know), considering this is an international open-source game project.

Now, I don't want to complain, but I would like to offer to make new font-files, and a few suggestions:

Use the ISO/IEC 8859-15 charset (without control codes, obviously)
This would cover English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and 25+ more (Wikipedia).
And there still would be room for 65 Nexuiz-specific special characters/pictograms.

The current ones appear to be upscaled (and then are downscaled again in-game), several emoticons are covering 2 spots, and there are too many line (-_¯) characters (about 16)

Multiple Fonts
I would be willing to make several different font-files (for example Verdana, URW Gothic, Century Schoolbook,...)
But this would only be useful if it will be possible to set them in the menu.

I don't really know if there may be (good) reasons to not change the current charset, or fonts, or in any case, who I should adress this to...
That's why I'm posting it here, to find out.

Many players insist on the weird special characters like LCD font...

but Blub is currently working on something even better: UTF-8 support, and Freetype support.

Problem solved.

I'm not too fond of the "normal" fonts, it just looks too much out of place. If whoever is going to make custom fonts i would suggest him (or her) to include some modern or "retro-spacey" ones.

Or a genuine Nexuiz font.
