  • Can't be nexball... in NB, there are no weapons enabled by default.
Or it still can be NB ai with weapons enabled.
    Or the trail.

    Or both :D

    Edit: oh...

    bombing run? :?:

  • No.... no........ no..... Jesus you all took off with that screenshot... It's a new gametype called keepaway.. And also, it won't be in 2.5.2.. Maybe 2.5.3. But after 2.5.2 is released, i'm going to set up a public server with it.. And i'll need testers.

Essentially, the goal of keepaway is to capture a ball and hold this ball for as long as you can (Or with winmode 1, the goal is to get as many kills as you can while holding a ball)
Do it yourself, or stop complaining.

  • My attempt to create a new playermodel.
Currently messing around with the diffusemap.
    Still prrretty WiP:

The model: (has about ~1900 faces - counted in Quads and tris - 3500 tris)
    Image
    Texture (2048²):
    Image
(Face amount on that screenie is wrong)

My only problem is that I'm too lazy, and collect frags instead of painting textures :)

If anyone wants to take a look at it in 3D: Here's the .blend.

    Greetings.

eh, not exactly. there are some slight differences, but for the most part very similar. we do need some movie-based models though.. :D

  • Indeed.
It was exactly that concept-image that made me doing him ;)
Changed some parts though - just out of the reason they would be to HighPoly probably.
I'll try to do them with a Normal-map later.
(btw: Does Nexuiz support proper Normalmapping? As I've seen some nmaps on the wepons I guess it does...)

Glossy & Glowmap will also come.

Hm... I should open a new topic with the next update...

    Greetings.

  • Yes, it supports normalmaps.

    name it as:

xyz_norm , and the engine will automatically use it.

Your an inspiration to us all!

  • Just to show you that I didn't fell asleep:

    Image
    (Note: Bad screenshot)
Right side is with, left side without Normal/Bumpmapping.
    Colormap is now nearly finsihed.

    Missing:
    - (good) Bumpmap
    - Specmap
    - Shorts&Pants-maps
    - Glowmap

If you want the .blend - just ask for it.

  • Yeah, I suppose WE want the blend, just in case you'd disappear like the other modelers :)

Nice work BTW. Maybe it should look a bit more sturdy though? Right now it looks like something that could be killed with one laser shot :P

  • Ok, then YOU get the .blend (here) :D
Also made the arms a bit thicker.
And I play normally Minsta. So it doesn't bother me really that it would killed with one shot:P
And no. I won't dissappear. I'm already to addicted. :|

@Franco: Really really nice work. I played that map in Q3 and I must admit that it rocks.
Thanks for bringing it to Nexuiz :)

ill go back and de-red the pants some and probably call it good. didn't want to overhaul her, but i did want to add a bit more "spooky sexiness" to her

  • The muzzle looks far better than my attemp to make that Fireball-gun (Here).
Only the part above the holder looks a bit strange.... Somehow organic.
I will continue mine though. Perhaps it's good for another weapon..

  • Yeh, that part needs work.
I think I'll just do it again, mebbe just with some simple geometry, i was trying to make some air intakes like a fighter jet, but it hasn't really worked out so far.
    ..
Haha on me... i just looked at most of the Nexuiz models, some won't load into blender, even if i use the .zym importer, but some will.
    ..
And what i found was this: it's not neccesary to make your weapon one continuous mesh. They are made out of many intersecting pieces.
Which totally makes sense from a texturing point of view, because the weapon i made is one continuous mesh so i now have to mark all the seams in order to map the texture properly.. hmffph.
    ..
Also making the mesh continuous means a lot of extra polygons.
Also making one continous mesh take a lot longer and is totally unnecessary >.<
And one last thing, do everything in triangles, not quads.
    Ah well, im learning.

You don't want to do that. All of those extra surfaces facing the camera have to be drawn by the GPU, regardless of whether they are covered by other pieces of geometry (only backface culling can really save faces from having to be being filled). It can make things worse the more weapons there are closer to the camera. The poly count is less of an issue, especially if you make levels of detail of the model.

So this isn't an aspect of the current weapon models you want to copy.

  • OK , i kept the mesh manifold and played with seams.. for a long time :?

This is only a preliminary texturing. Just playing with ideas atm, it's my first weapon (kinda) so im in no hurry.
