some people can make abstract maps (FruitieX's first map) and some people can't make abstract maps ( MikeeUsa )

  • New map in progress... 'alpha' phase, not ready for beta yet (although I got bots running around). It's four floors, and a color for each, but it needs some open areas for jumping, I thought the rooms would be enough, but it's not... it's 'A Dark Place'...

Still fixing z-fighting, and some textures (making some normal/gloss maps... these shots are from my wife's machine, which can't handle it so much). Did I mention I like dark?

  • Why don't you do that with modeled geometry instead of patches? Might look more natural.

  • @TK471: The first shot looks ace ! The colours in the other ones don't fit the theme imo, and the grates in the 2nd and 3rd shot remind me of OpenArena (in other words: i don't like them very much).
The first shot also remind me of this map: http://lvlworld.com/comments.php?id=1196
If you own q3 this is a must have.

btw.: why don't you get rid of that crosshair and all the stats and your gun when taking a screenshot ? ;)

  • Some abuse of reflection:
    Image

Yes! Augenkrebs Alpha 5 is done! Now with CTF support, to spread even more evil to the world.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • You should make people spawn in a room with a warning sign for photosensitive epileptics, and they can teleport into the map from there. 8)

  • to divVerent: Wow, psychodelic fraggin! That's for real? I can't wait to melt my brain in there!

to Strahlemann: thanks, I'm still debating the different floors/colors deal, and the textures seen in the 2nd and 3rd shots, I'm not sure if I'm happy with them either... I'll probably change them up to be similar to shots 1, 4, and 5. It's a ways off to being released.
I'll check into my screenshot settings too!

to FrutieX, the 'ModernWarfare' is lookin' good!

    to Cortez... leaking pipes!

  • A old q3 map that lied on my HDD for years. Now i'm finishing it. There's way too much detail in some places, so fps suck. But hey.... it's 2007 ;)
It's called "Revenga!" ( yep. SoaD \m/ ). It's a small 1on1 map with a simple layout, but i think it 's a lot of fun to play (at least with the q3bots so far)
I'm planning to do a Nexuiz port after i'm satisfied with the q3 version.

  • Wow, Strahlemann just wow, super dergraded tech look, I like, steampunk yeah.
I particularily like the looming towers. A very moody map, will nex version be so moody or is this a quake type atmosphere? Any tips on creating textures like these, I can't manage to be so subtle somehow.
Do you use .tga or .jpg. I've been using only 512*512 .tga but they seem to bump up the file size something awful. Hmmm, I'm going to go look at strength.

  • i'll try to get the same mood into nexuiz.
The textures are a mix from a lot of texture sets. Most of them are from MrClean's Texture pack 4: http://mrclean.planetquake.gamespy.com/2dart.shtml
Some good tutorials on creating textures using Photoshop are from evillair (who also made most of the Nexuiz stock textures) http://hfx.planetquake.gamespy.com/tutorials.html
But for creating _gloss and _normal maps you may want to take a look on tools like http://www.mapzoneeditor.com/
    I'm using jpg.
For strength i used the tga's of the eX texture set which is already a part of Nexuiz 2.3. So the file size is not so big. But i doubt that using tga's instead of jpg's of the same size really makes the difference for the player.

  • This took just under 10 000 seconds to compile could have been deluxemap but i think it's something else , never took this long before.2.7 hours !!

    Image

and then i found a place to fall out of the map and that I'd lost the red flag, :(

  • looks wicked !
    I love the sky 8)

What q3map2 switches did you use ?

    Maybe this helps a bit:
    Code: Select all
_blocksize : q3map always splits the BSP tree along the planes X=_blocksize*n and Y=_blocksize*n. Default _blocksize value is 1024. Increase the blocksize using larger powers of 2 to reduce compile times on very large maps with a low structural brush density.

  • I am looking forward to it. It will be much better then the maps the other guy makes which are pure shit because of his beliefs. I downloaded nordic castle like someone said and I was walking around it and then I was in the basement and I saw mysoginistic cartoons. The map is shit. There are also alot of torture devices and that shows that that person has a sick mind and should be imprisoned on hate crimes. Unfortunatly the USA doesn't yet have the hate crimes and speech laws the EU has so he cannot be imprisoned for life yet. I hope that he steps foot in Europe one day so that he can be arrested on hate crimes. I support abortion rights. I think the guy advocating downloading his maps should have his post deleted because mysoginy should not be tolerated anywhere. The gene pool needs to be weeded out of everyone who is mysoginistic or racist.

Btw the last shot reminds me of a really old first test release of quake3 (q3test). I've only seen it on screenshots, but this looks like one of the early test versions of q3dm17 :P
