Quake 3 Maps and Nexuiz?

  • Hmm, I can try it instead of asking, but then I cant spam ;)

My question: Is it possible to run Quake3 Maps in Nexuiz (I dont want to edit them or do something else, just drop them in the Nexuiz Maps Folder and then play them)? Does it work?

  • Of course its working :) Just drop the .pk3 files into the Nexuiz/data folder and load the map with map MAPNAME in the console..
Nexuiz itself now uses another way to load the maps so the (q3) map will not appear in the map dialog.
I think you can load q1,q3,hl maps.. and i guess every other compatible bsp map

  • Sorry for double post, but I still have a question -.-

Ok, Quake3 Maps are running, and how are the Quake3 Mods? Like DeFRag? Does they work and if they work there I have to move them? In the normal "data" Folder with the maps or in an another, special folder? I mean, I want to play this mod offline, too. Is this possible?

P.S.: This was my last noobie question about Maps and Mods with and Nexuiz ;)

  • Well you can always edit your old post with the button.. guess what.. edit :). But a new post will appear in the 'new posts search' so this is sometimes better..

No you can't load q3 mods.. q1 mods will work however. After all DarkPlaces, the engine Nexuiz is using, is a Quake1 Engine. The current development version also got QuakeWorld support so it might also be possible to load QW mods but i'm not sure how complete the QW support is..

Hmm how can one change the Thread name? This terribly missspelled quake has to be corrected :) Do i have to edit the first thread and change the subject? I do not like to experiment with this..

  • I see noobie :D

Ofcourse, q3 maps work very well under nexuiz, mind tho, that nexuiz uses a bit different shader system, so it will be more-or-less equvivalent as you see it in q3. (No moving textures, transparency may be broken, my be transparent where it sould not be etc.) Another issu, that you cannot run (or better to be said: not recommended) to run official q3 maps made by id software, as you would broke laws. This goes to the whole media content too (textures, models, maps, sounds etc., ONLY IF YOU HAVE A LEGAL COPY OF QUAKE3 ;) But this way everybody must have them, )

Quake1 maps are safer, as they do not use q3 shaders (not sure if they use any), and 100% compatible with DP engine. But still, copyright remains for media content.

Now for the mod questoin. NO, it won't work ;) A quake1 mod maybe, but not a q3.

And post any questions you want, there are no stupid questions (only questions that could be easily answered by a little thinking or researching ;) ) Noone was born with a mouse in-hand...

@esteel: Won't you just please shut up for a second or so? Let other people help too, you have 64 posts already! Shu-shu, go away cubehead, gettalife! :P :D

I was saying noob to the forums and the nexuiz community, as these questions were already answered in the old forum that got hacked a few days ago ;) That's why it is a big pain for us, that forum was up from 2002 or so, it had tons of info to dig yourself in.

    Oh, and I don't play CS. :D

I think this sounds too scary :). He can use Nexuiz/DarkPlaces to play a Q3 map with out any legal problems. Of course he has to own a copy of Q3 to do so. I also have to own the car i'm tuning but i guess noone ever mentions this fact :). But you are right there arise problems if he wants to create a new map based on Q3 textures. He will not be able to include the textures in the map pack and so only players that have quake3 and have copied the .pk3 files from Q3 to nexuiz will be able to enjoy the map to the fullest. The other ones will see lots of black textures.

Ok :), I know thee old board was very full... I was registered, but Ive never post anything because I didnt know what to say under the masses of posts...

Quake 3, yes I have that game, but at the moment my windows is broken (the mainboard was too hot, the radiator wasn´t able to cool down the heat after my "little overclocking try", today after 7pm i have to go to media markt and buy a new mainboard.... i hate it...) and I must play with my laptop (mac) and Quake 3 didn´t run on this laptop (too slow? i dont know...)

And to the CS part: Ive played CS 1.6 hmm at least 4 years, yes im 16, but my friend give it me, when i was 12 (or 13? dont know, anyway).... but NOW im playing Nexuiz and its really better then CS!!! (and MoH:SH sometimes like BF2, j4f ;))

EDIT: Damn! Im 3th!!! Muhaha esteel, make posts or go away ;) - There is only one place at the top of the sky hehe
