New grenade bounce sounds (.pk3 dist)

  • I've made some new grenade boundce sounds.

    You can get them at:
    http://excalibur.nvg.ntnu.no/nexuiz/pk3 ... -08-20.pk3

    Just put the pk3 file in the nexuiz/data dir and you should be good to go.

    there is 6 sounds in the pack, 2.0 only uses the first 3 of these. If you unpack and rename the files you can choose any combination as the three you want. I am hoping to get this into the next nex version, if so, all 6 sounds should be used.

    Edit:
    These are made from absolute scratch, so they can easily be used and disted without any problems with licencing.

    not so much changes, i like it like that...
    one little thing : imho it makes too much loud when someone spams a lotta bouncing grenades. perhaps just lowering the volume or something like that could fix it ?

    Originally the volume was higher, and it was lowered, then it ended up too low, the current is a middle between these. If it is any lower volume, it will seem too low compared with i.e the elecro bounces.

    btw, I'm working on new sound for the secondary electro too, imo the sound should have more of a "gel" feel to it, the eletroblobs should be soft and elastic, not sound like glass, imo :)

  • Agreed. Even though the new sounds weren't added to Nexuiz yet - combined with new Electro sounds - they do have a chance to get in the next release.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

    You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • I bump this as i think it would be clever to include these sounds in 2.2, they are also ready for a furure 6-sound bounce, as there is 6 sounds, allthough only three are used. If i have time during the holidays, I'll try and make the new electro bounce sounds too.

    I kinda agree, but they are much heavier than the one currently in-game :)

    edit: an enother thing.. thats the impact of hollywook for you.. those sounds are made from recordings of the flat side of an ax hitting an anvil.

    They are normalized to fit the electro secendary and other movement sounds for that matter. Actually _all_ the nexuiz effec sounds are way off volume wise, and shold be redone :) but thats hmm.. a lot of work.

    But sure.. you are entitled to your opinion :)

    Edit: I run in stereo, not surrund.. if they seem too loud in surrund, let me know.. they are quite good in stereo.

  • Do you also think Arnolds gun in terminator 2 sounds like as shotgun? It is the sound of an anti-aircraft cannon.

    But as i said.. I'm not saying they wont be remade, but the point now is to get a 6-pack of sounds in so that the nexst version can contain 6 sounds too without breaking backwards compatibility.

    Most servers offer automatic mapdownload if you do not happen to have the map so that should be less of a problem :)

    And yes xfire should support Nexuiz but there were a few requests in the forum, i wrote them a mail without even an answer and as i no longer use windows but linux and the server browser XQF i do no longer care...
