  • Hi, i'm working on a new model for nexuiz.
It's an eagle owl in some kind of mech suit.

  • Thanks, i'm glad you him!
So i'll go on and make a more detailed high-poly-version.

    One thing:
What do you like better the fat owl or the rather normal owl?

  • Fat owl looks less likely to fall out of the straps.

Also, how does he hold his gun? Not that he needs one, it would be great fun to chase after a MechOwl.

  • Poor owl.
    It's eyes must be hurting.

    BTW, Fat one.

  • I think it looks a bit too narrow. If you gave him some kind of gun mount for the weapon to be held by it would make it wider and actually give him a method of firing.

  • I'd prefer the fatty one, it looks more like o one of our beloved birds *chough-chough-a penguin*

Keep up the good work, can't wait to frag da 0wl! :D

  • I also prefer the fat owl.. i'm not sure why, maybe it reminds my too of a certain penguin or it just looks more matching to the exoskeleton :) But i'm also interested in how 'he' is supposed to hold the guns.
This thing looks really great and will be a great addition to the other models. It might even make me switch from the beloved carni i have since version 1.0.. oh forget it i can't do that :P

  • I like the fat one - it looks more original than the "normal" one and is more funny too. You should make sure that this model doesn't have waaaaaay to many polygons like the other playermodels in Nexuiz.

EDIT: I think you should make the head look a bit more silly... maybe like a chicken.

  • First of all, thanks for your answers.
I also like the fat owl better.
I don't know if it will work out well, but i intend to let it hold the guns with its (real) claws.

Polycount will be about 2000. That isn't too much I hope.

@upQuark: I'll do my best to make it look more silly
@Ed: I also think it is a little narrow, I'll see if I can change that.

  • Nice model.
    Crazy idea :)
I also like the fat one better, because there the belts have something to hold back.
And why would an owl use an exoskeleton if not because of its fatness?
So go for the fat one ;)

Maybe add some mechanical wings to hold the gun and to point out the feature that it's in fact a flying animal that's driving this mech.

And make some crazy skinning !

  • Small update:
    Image
I think it looks more like an owl now and less like a balloon with eyes :)

    @obi_wan+strahlemann:
I thought about some mechanical thing to hold the gun, but if it holds the gun with its feet it adds to the weirdness of the model, I think.
    Like this, but nicer:

  • totally weird!!
    and cool :D

But keep in mind that ingame u cant see the details of the model - so make sure that it does not look like this eyerobot form QIII, with the gun at middle height it is just in danger to do so. It deserves to become something unique. maybe the gun over the head, if that is possible. (just an idea...)

Really good idea :) if that doesnt add to nexuiz innovation count, i dont know what else should ;)

  • I must admit, I am impressed at the maturity of this in that no one has posted the "O RLY?" owl yet.

A robot arm with a weapon mount would be fine too, although the feet work too.

  • It looks simply crazy in a very good way :D. Also I think being fat makes him look a bit more evil, as many evil cartoon characters are fat :). Looking forward to seeing this in the game.

  • Haha! Fat one please! Fat adds to the sympathy. Could be even fatter. A fat little owl. LOWL!!! Reminds me of an imp. I might change too since my beloved robot model turned out to be a cyborg anyway which 'somebody' revealed recently. Might as well use a "tech chick".

There should also be a skinny chicken model. We could even have a whole farm!

Weird... i think i remember this. Deja vu anyone?
