  • True, but I dont see any point in making a no CTF map rule. It should be up to the mapper whether they want to try to fit a ctf map into that space.

  • Not to mention that a size limit is pretty stupid imho, since it's rather hard to predict how large the bsp file will become...

  • Why the hell would you need to host all the maps? (i assume thats what you are talking abt since it dosent make mutch sense otherwise)

Indeed. The textures alone i made for this project is arround 60 megs, not that ill use em all ofc, but still. makes no sense what so ever to put a cap on filesizes.

  • agreed. No cap on the filesize.

And i'd stick to the 2048³ contest idea. So no extra rules for ctf-maps.
There could be a "Make a ctf-map" contest, but that should be handled in an extra thread.

The script has a file uploader built into it when you submit your map. I have 2GB of space on my webserver - about 750MB of my crap. I don't want that getting too filled up. If we hosted it on another server, that would be a different story.

even then it's kind of dumb to not have a size limit. if the contest is to encourage mappers to make really awesome maps, it has to have reasonable download times.

  • Its too hard to predict how large your map will become, and I dont want to see people end up scrapping maps after lots of work just because its over the size limit.

Besides.. when did we decide that ever map has to be uploaded on your webserver?

  • allright, no size limit. just make it reasonable.

    Rules

    * Deathmatch Maps
o Map must be under 2048 qu³
o Map must be under the GPL, NO proprietary content is allowed
o It must be in PK3 format, all custom content included, and having a mapcfg and txt file
o The gamemode must be Deathmatch
o Map must have a reasonable pk3 size
    * CTF Maps
o Map must be under ??? qu³
o Map must be under the GPL, NO proprietary content is allowed
o It must be in PK3 format, all custom content included, and having a mapcfg and txt file
o The gamemode must be CTF
o Map must have a reasonable pk3 size

  • I'd say, cut it down to:
    • Map must be under 2048 qu³
    • Map must be under the GPL, NO proprietary content is allowed
    • It must be in PK3 format, all custom content included, and having a mapcfg and txt file

I don't see any reaon for limiting it gamemode to deathmatch (there are more gamemodes than dm & ctf btw ;)) and like Strahlemann suggested, there should be a seperate contest for ctf, some later time...

  • Just one question: Should we allow 3d skyboxes (like soylent uses) ?

I'd say "yes" as long as the box for the 3d skybox is inside the 2048³ units.

    What do you think ?

@nexuizmapper: Please send your map to the judges which will be announced later (i guess sometime around the deadline.... seems to be the 1.8.07 for now)

  • Hey folks, my first post here. What's the deal with Mikeusa? I spoke to tZork about this guy while playing his competition map. Then I bumped into him later on and he did seem kind of regretful about events. I like the map (apart from flags not returning) so can't the politics go take a leap? Of course i don't really know anything about this cause you've deleted all his posts. Is he really that bad?

  • Mike.. well.. yes. he is. it cannot be described. In my regard he might have whatever opinions he like, but he just cant stop bashing about them and tunring abseloutly everything into a discussino about this as soon as someone disagrees with hiim on any topic.

mikeeusa is the first (and to my knowledge) only persone ever to be banned from the debian forums.

I suggest we just disband this discussion right now. respectfully, of cource.

Mikee has made himself totaly unwelcome here. Gettin a new email and/or ip is not an acceptable way to end a ban. And please, nomore abt this here; this is not the thread for it.

I seen no reason not to allow 'em.

  • It must be inside the 2048³ cube. But that should not be a problem, since you can make the 3d-skybox kinda small.
