  • The deadline was extended but my first entry is completed today, June 30.

    I post it now because
    1. I want to inspire other entrants to also think "outside of the box".
    2. I have no time map after today anyhow. So i may as well submit now.

Timeprism: The ancient technology has been unearthed!

    http://www.xoopstuner.com/nex/timeprism.pk3

Fully GPL, Fits snugly in a 2048 cube (although the lift is technically out of bounds at runtime :D )

  • Some feedback:
Neat little map, the layout is simple but interesting, I like how you worked into some cover in the middle part.

The light on the screenshot should be a bit higher, because as it is right now one bumps right into it when jumping around the upper level.
    Image

Also I found the map overall too dark, especially in the middle area.
Man, 2048x2048 seems to be really small ;)

I hope it is ok to post this here, but you said testing is allowed, though this was more like a quick look ;)

  • Cool idea, but as dIM mentioned the "Future"-version is much too dark. Also some hints on where the teleporters are and in which time-zone they teleport you are needed imo.

Your point is well taken but i'm done with this. The weird thing it that that it the very last light i threw in because although it is supposed to be night time the area was just too dark.
By the way, the three sides of the prism cycles you back (up), forward(down) or nowhere in time so you can go from any time to any other in just 1 teleport. I decided not to put any "instructions" on the prism because walking through the SAME side again takes you where you want to go if you missed. Besides a little confusion is cool.

  • I have never heard of being disqualified because you submitted your entry too early.
Let me say that once you post it is final, no fixes and, of course, your competition can see what you did. :D
I'd rather loose to a truly superior map than win because everybody else was lamer. It's GPL man. No prize money. :(

  • ok here my maps. A kind of concept red&blue

    1.blue
    - a spacemap
    - 2-4 players
    - strenght power up
    Download: http://files.filefront.com/bluepk3/;793 ... einfo.html

    2.red
    - a lava map
    - a good 1on1 map
    Download: http://files.filefront.com/redpk3/;7939 ... einfo.html

everything should be GPL if only 1 maps is allowed chose the better one :P

*friendly-admin-edit: made the links work, the forum did not recognize the http without a space in front of it. But the second link still does not work, maybe its broken?*

  • I've been thinking about it and I have changed my opinion about posting being final. I now think that the MAPPER should have the choice to work openly or privately. It would ultimately result in better maps. We do need an official way to post maps, especially for people without hosting.
    Just my opinion. :D

  • I would suggest that the final maps are the ones that get submitted to the jury by the mapper. (via PM link or whatever).

Note: the jury still needs to be announced. I personally asked Morfar and kojn so far, and they both agreed.

If the jury is to be formed from the best, then Dresk needs to be in the pool. I know most don't know him, but he IS the best Nexuiz player around. Granted, he doesn't play standard Nexuiz (He only plays the Spidflisk Mod), but his skills would NOT change if he did. Anyway, its a shame he's not considered in many things as this. Dresk really has great ideas and knowledge of what makes a great game.

...and just because they are the best, doesn't mean they know what a good map should be. I'm not saying any of the current ones selected for the jury are not up to the challenge (I know that both should be on the jury), only that maybe we need to expand the selection. :)

  • Well, get him on here then :-)

I just assumed Dresk doesn't "do" forums, or something.

    He's a fickle one, that Dresk :-P

On a side note... you really suspect that Dresk is better than kojn? interesting. We should scrape together some donation money to have Dresk fly to Europe for a Nexuiz tournament.

Bah. I guess we'll never know.

  • We don't have a jury yet but i would like to see all the entries on a server somewhere so regular players can vote for their favourite. Maybe this can happen on the first week of judging or something.
My map is a mess. It's a piss poor example of mapping technique so i kinda hope i lose but i think it would be a total blast to play.

  • question- Am I correct in assuming that a map cant be 2048 cubic units, but not fit in a cube? For example, if the map was really long but very narrow....

the map must be in a 2048 cube

Every map should be posted in the deadline and after the deadline some one make a poll where the community can vote thier favourtis :!:

  • Actually... does just the inside of the map have to be in the cube, or does the outside have to be in there too? That is, is it still legal if the outer walls are outside the cube in the editor? As these are discarded while compiling the map, the map would then fit in the cube AFTER compiling.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

If not, you could of course push the walls closer by 0.25qu and make them 0.25qu thin - and nobody would ever notice a difference :P

But yes, this is why IMHO the inner area should count. Extending the outer walls outside it is just an editing aid, nothing that REALLY changes anything. So the playable/projectilable volume has to fit in 2048^3, even though that's harder to verify.

  • Finally! The beta1 version of this map is done! :D. *Me proudly presents teh worst map performance wise ever* It has got horrible performance, way too much health/armor powerups and same weapons a bit too close to each other :]

It includes two maps, both with the same geometry but the ctf version has some other textures on each side of the bases.

    Goddamit I'm tired XD.

Will I get pluspoints by telling you that I'm a n00b mapper who got radiant working on his linux distro apx 2 weeks ago? :D.

This map is still in heavy developement, but this is the final competition map...

You can rig up 999 hp and 999 armor on this map easily, way too easily :D

Did I mention it had horrible performance?

Sry I have no screenies atm, I'm going to sleep right now

Oh, and ofcourse the map (hope I included everything): http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/11/7/ ... ubical.pk3

10minutes until deadline, this got damn tight.

BTW. I live in Finland (+2 GMT) so that's why the last modified time is something around 01:38 :P
