If this is in reference to the Facing_Worlds time capture, then I'm not sure why this was said.

Remember that all who upload time runs, are always tested usually by me to see if it's even possible. With that said I tested his run and it is possible to do without "god mode" on.

Now his time is beatable, as I've already beat it (without god mode), but do not want to keep holding records. I mostly want more of the community to get involved, so please anyone up to the challenge attempt his record...It Is Beatable! :)

... Easily beatable! Notice how I lose my speed in the end of the run by hitting the wall in my own base? I'll try to improve my record before someone else beats it

    Edit: MMMkay! Now itz 6.18s!

  • Kojn's GreatWall Reloaded 3 is now posted. See my original post to download the avi.

Cortez's captures have also been added. Have fun!

Note: that I encoded this avi with somewhat better quality, so the filesize is larger...16mb I believe. If anyone doesn't want that filesize then I can just upload them with the lower quality but decreased filesizes.

In general add on about 2-5 seconds onto those times, to get a quick cap for one of those maps online on a public server.

  • Nice thread! :)

I just think that runs with god mode enabled shouldn't be valid. Instead how about creating a standard setting they should start with? That way we could eliminate a few arguments if a run is valid or not. Just a though from my end.

    Here's my suggestion...
    http://www.nexuiz.info/files/other/flagrun.zip
This is a mod I wiped up. It makes an alias (giveme) which gives you all weapons with all ammo, 150 health and 100 armor. It also enables cheats (to make it possible) at startup.
Then all you would have to do is bind it to a key and press it before you do a run.

Of course the amount of health/armor allowed should be determined before we can use this mod. And you should probably just use the weapons that are on the map.

Most of this is simply an alias inside a 'autoexec.cfg', but since you can't give yourself a specified amount of armor (I have no idea why), I made a quick mod to enable it.

    What do you think?

  • Well I've been thinking about letting people use the God Mode cheat. I originally used it because I got tired of waiting to pick up all the healths and armor, but I always did dry runs to see if you would die without the cheat on. Now that this is taking off, I'm considering just not allowing the god mode anymore.

Now to your mod. I didn't install it yet because I already have a mod installed and don't want to separate them. But also I think I misunderstood the point. Your mod gives the player all the health and weapons they want? You can already do that with sv_cheats. Isn't this just like using god mode?

Instead how about creating a standard setting they should start with? That way we could eliminate a few arguments if a run is valid or not. Just a though from my end.

Yeah, this is the best solution I can come up with too. At the beginning of this I said I might take god mode out and now I will. There is only one way to make sure there is no debate and that is PURE Nexuiz Standard Settings. Nothing changed. I am now going to go to the original post to edit it.

Abanddon: I'm not opposed to using your mod, I honestly just didn't see the difference from sv_cheats now. More information/clarification and I might set this to the default to use. Thanks.

Well, the way I made it, it is in a directory on it's own. You copy the directory (flagrun) into your nexuiz directory. Then you just do a 'nexuiz -game flagrun'. (There's a run.bat for Windows users). When you don't use the mod, everything is as it was. (No modification to your Nexuiz).

Mr.Carlyle wrote: But also I think I misunderstood the point. Your mod gives the player all the health and weapons they want? You can already do that with sv_cheats. Isn't this just like using god mode?

The point was to create a starting point based on what we come up with here. Say if we say you are allowed to give yourself 150 health and 100 armor before doing a run. Then the mod will let you do that with a touch of a button. (Witch makes you ready for the next try). Then nobody would need to use god mode or collect tons of health/armor/weapons before each try.

Hope I explained myself better this time. (not sure though ;))

Yes you did. Thanks :) For now I just want to stick with the standard Nexuiz settings though. I'm actually working on creating "categories" for time runs. Kojn wants god mode to be Legal where you can basically just try to get the best time on the map no matter what. I, however, originally wanted the captures to be possible in real game play. Although god mode is not legal in real game play I have decided to allow it for now. If not, the attempts on maps such as capturecity and facingworlds would just take too long. Everyone can be assured that all runs are tested to see if they are possible without god mode. Again, there may be changes made and hopefully an Official Nexuiz Time Run thread.

I think you mean 6:05 but its not my best time so no demo

and i think Xant got something about 6 or 7 sec at runningmanctf. he posted a screen here at the forum.

Again, I'm not accepting runs if they are not in .dem or a video format. If anyone is going to try to beat the basement time it is no longer 8.10 or 6.05, but 5.97. This is my time using no weapons. I cannot upload a video file because my video card is currently being replaced. Hopefully it'll be here by next weekend.

I'm also changing the time runs to have captures using weapons and captures not using weapons. See the original post for explanation. Have fun all! 8)

  • I have an idea... I committed a small feature to official Nexuiz that extends the "impulse 99" cheat to not only give you all the weapons, 999 health and 999 armor, but also teleport you to where you have put your personal waypoint (g_waypointsprite_personal) if you have done so previously. So you run to the flag, deploy your waypoint, and then before each speedrun attempt, you do impulse 99.

Now this is more health than you usually get, but I suppose it doesn't really matter as health drops over time anyway.

So maybe in the future, impulse 99 should be allowed - but no god mode? Deadly stuff like on facing worlds would then still kill you, lava swimming is too deadly either way, and I can't think of anything else where it would matter; only exception: in-air rocket detonations. Of course, if you allow that, you should not allow impulse 99 INSIDE the speedrun, just BEFORE it. And when playing back a demo, you can always see where impulse 99 was being used.

If you want, I can make the teleporting to waypoint a special impulse, but I don't really think it's necessary, due to the arguments I named.

Of course, one can only have one personal waypoint, but still, using that impulse INSIDE a speedrun must be forbidden.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

I love the teleportation to the waypoint. This would save so much time on larger maps. But this implementation is not going in until Nexuiz 3.0, yes?

Shaggy: Cortez is right, any map can be attempted. I would have put all maps in my original post, but wasn't if people would get into the challenge. If this were a sticky, though...

  • It looks like we'll release a minor update to 2.3 soon. No big changes will be in it, but this feature will be included, and the networking settings will be tuned.

    Current change list:

    Engine:
    • optional new HUD (sbar_hudselector 1)
    • new command r_glsl_dumpshader to assist with GLSL shader hacking
    • fix crash in vorbis decoder for weird sampling rates
    • timing debug info in status (see RBI servers)
    • sv_rate and rate got increased
    • lots of CSQC related fixes
    • fix autosprite2
    • fix integer overflow causing crashes in servers running for a long time
    • new console parser now also expands variables inside double quotes, except for alias definitions; also, variable expansions insert a quoted value that can be safely used inside double quotes to keep a variable together. Allows copying cvars using set copyvar "$originalvar" even if ", \, space or ; were contained in the variable

    Game code/content/config:
    • sv_clmovement_waitforinput got reduced to 4 (previously 16) to reduce players sticking in air for some time
    • IP banning got added, and kick votes now show who is going to be kicked/banned
    • Domination support for reslimed
    • cl_handicap feature
    • very experimental bot_autoskill feature
    • disable joystick by default
    • impulse 99 now can teleport to a saved position

  • Impressive, my best time was 12.55s, and I made the map... have to watch it.

Oh... you used laser boosting, I held the electro all the time to open the doors for me... maybe a combination of these two tactics can lead to a better time, but it will be really hard.

First attempt at combining was 11.75s, your time is 11.15s...
Now I got 11.55s... but I still got stuck at the turn just before the flag room. There must be a way... 11.35s and still stuck in that room... it must be possible... damn, my mouse is annoying me... YEAH, 10.75s and still beatable, But I gave up, weapon switches often don't happen when they should... so I am now posting my 10.75s (with impulse 99, however, so it may not count as valid, but as the run isn't perfect at all, it will be beaten anyway - my estimate is that 9.5s should be possible that way, maybe even 9.0): http://mensa.ath.cx/~polzer/temp/2007-0 ... mea_v2.dem

So, Mirio... can you now use this trick to improve your run, and get a time lower than ten seconds?

^3[^8RBI^3]^0You^8-^1Know^8-^3Who^7^7 captured the ^4BLUE^7 flag in 10.75, breaking the previous record of 13.10 seconds

  • Just thinking whether I should make the teleport a separate cheat from impulse 99, and let it also return the flag you are carrying, so you can use it to abort a failed attempt...

or actually, committing exactly that now. It will be impulse 77.

    Yes, it's coded now, http://mensa.ath.cx/~polzer/temp/2007-0 ... lspace.dem mentalspace 6.5s weapons.

  • Source code patch for Impulse 77: http://mensa.ath.cx/~polzer/temp/impulse77.diff

    pk3 containing the impulse 77 function with otherwise unmodified 2.3 progs.dat: http://mensa.ath.cx/~polzer/temp/impulse77.pk3

Just put this in your data directory, and you get a new "impulse 77" command for speedruns (only when sv_cheats is enabled of course), no other changes from 2.3. Someone please test it...

BTW, it can't be used to get a faster time, as it automatically returns the flag you are carrying.
