  • Maybe some noticed the great tourney updates green´marine made allready. Now we need some sounds for starting the match, or pausing.

All who send in there records of the following sounds we need will have the chance to be "implemented" on the servers. You can use effects like "echo / bassboost" or whatever you want, to let your voice sound cooler. It only has to fit into the nexuiz style.

    Sounds we need:

"Prepare to fight!" // "get ready to fight" // ""Prepare to battle!" // "get ready to battle"
    "three"
    "two"
    "one"
    "Fight!"
    "Timeout!" // "timeout called"

Make every sound as a seperat wave file (fight.wav, suicide.wav etc etc) . Here is my suggestion, if you have to edit your record afterwards (cutting, effects): http://audacity.sourceforge.net/.

When you are ready with your records, please compress it all into one Zip file, and call it as your name (i.e. I would use bundy.zip). Then email it to k-bundy@web.de

Have fun recording and a lot of thanks for your help!

  • I have a heavy voice so I can give it a try whenever I have time ;). Do you have any recommendations of software to record voice audio and create effects?

  • why the sound "Suicide" ? When and where should it be played?

and may I propose to have a sound for "Timeout called" instead of just "Timeout" ... or maybe native english speakers can suggest something which is better ;)

  • Timeout called sounds good.

I just got a mic from the media lab, so I'll do some recordings today.

    I'm also Americano.

  • in IRC, torus was suggesting something other than "Prepare to fight" because it was too much like Mortal Kombat. Perhaps "Commence Battle" or something of that nature?

  • Someone in IRC mentioned that "Get ready for..." was a bit odd considering it's being used when the match starts. They suggested "Battle!" instead.

    FINISH THEM!
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Interesting :P I recently tried to record a "Russian Robot" soundpack :D Used some low pass filters and switched on my native accent. It came out quite funny. I think, I'll give it a try too.
    Without the accent.

  • Well I guess we will upload some. Also we are looking forward to get some more sounds afterwards then those mentioned. There also sounds missing like "teams are tied", "blue leads" etc etc.

Finally I think it would be very good to renew every voice in nexuiz, but well, lets see what we are able to do :D

P.S.: I received the first audiopack from 4m, thanks for that! GOGOGO, want more :D

  • With audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) you can select a part of the audio file where only the background noise is present and let the programm filter the noise for the whole file. After that you can normalize the sound volume. This filtering ofcourse cuts out also some portions wich belong to the actuall recoding so it is generally frowned upon. But when using a cheap mic anyway and propably aplying some effects afterwards, I do not think the difference is receptable. But hear for yourself.

  • Suggestions for sounds are always welcome, but I would like to get more packages instead of that :D. Also, I dont know how many sounds will be replaced by the new ones, at least those for the tourney settings. For me it would be ok to renew all nexuiz voices ... but let´s see.

  • I'd also like to "refresh" all ingame voices. Would it actually be possible to add some kind of a voice menu? For taunts and stuff? I mean we already have some message-keybinds. You could apply sounds on these too, right?
Imo speech sounds add much to the overall style and athmosphere of a game (if they're good), for example UT wouldn't be the same without them.
Today you'll get a fresh pack from me. :P Prepare for battle!

  • Well, I cannot decide if any nexuiz sounds will be replaced, but I will talk to those who can do it. We (well, green will do it) can only assure that we will use it for the tourney mod.

  • Is there a deadline, or do you wait till a certain amount of submissions or what else?

EDIT: Yes HarryButt, there actually were taunt sounds made by div0 but he wasn't happy with those so he removed them. However you can make your own sounds and include them into a .pk3 and use that. How to include them into the game and such I don't know, probably would be a good idea to ask the devs :)
