Mappers, I challenge you.

Take my map "Augenkrebs", and turn it into something that does not hurt the eyes!

Requirements for submissions:

• The layout must be the same; items may be changed. Brushwork may be changed as long as it is done to add detail, but not to change gameplay. The BSP you submit must be mostly compatible with the original BSP in the aforementioned pk3, only minor prediction errors (like if you turned the square pillars into round ones) are allowed. Adding a secret room and a way to it is explicitly allowed, though, but the room is not allowed to have an exit then so it does not take part in gameplay.
• None of the original textures may be used. Not that you'd want to...
• This or a similar texture must be included somewhere on the map, possibly in a secret room:
• CTF flags must stay at their places; however, you are free to not include CTF in the mapinfo. Keep the entities anyway then.
• Submissions by anyone, including mikeeusa, are allowed and will be tested and judged not based on who submitted it, but on the actual outcome.
• Focus will be put on visuals, not on gameplay.
• The deadline is Jul 1, 2009, 23:42 UTC.

I'll later submit this map as an example to get some ideas from, which you sure will be able to beat.

Basically, I challenge you all to take something atrocious, and turn it into something good, by doing purely visual changes. Go ahead, artists!

I participate only under one condition: you provide the background music for us that's used in the Augenkrebs movie

This is the example map. You can take it as reference instead of original Augenkrebs, if you want, as it's 99.9% identical except for texturing

I remember having fun with this map on Galt's, the first time is a "lolwut?!" The epilepsy warning is epic

I'd like you to properly package the map when finished. You can use my file list I edited into your post for that, and I actually have started making a proper package, but it still lacks a good mapinfo.

And a suggestion: can you put some lights in the red base room? It looks quite dull at the moment. In my egyptsoc-themed version, I had surfacelights on the texture with the arrows for that.

I wonder where the other submissions are. Do you really want mikeeusa to win?

I updated the map with those additions, and added a better skybox (as of 2 weeks ago).

I'll play with the map if I get bored of studying... which is very likely.

Alright here is my entry. I have named it "augenstechen" which from what little german I looked at, should mean "Eye Stabbing". I've gone with my usual style.



I'm fairly sure that its packed correctly. Don't think I've forgotten anything this time. Everything is unchanged although I've divided up some brushes for the sake of detail as per the rules. I've also lit the map to keep with the dark, depressing generally black hearted mood. Just like me.

I think I changed the ladder brush by about 2 units because its annoying to have to jump and climb. It doesnt make a huge difference though. If it requires changing back I'll just recompile.

im for Sepelio i really like the glow, the skybox i dont like egypt textures so much (i made my own facing world without them and uploaded the building as a prefab for everyones maps )(...you're not the worst mapper )

Oh, I forgot one important thing... Sepelio wins could just use a bit more light.
Mikeeusa's version is good too, and is the only submission within the deadline (so it wins a prize too).
