2v2 TDM summer-cup/tournament (2 divisions!) Registration.

Mapping contests, FOTM, and more.

  • Hi there all,

    So I decided to do something useful and I have began to set up a 2on2TDM summer-cup/Tournament.

    It will begin on the week beginning of Monday 20th August, so you have plenty of time to prepare.

    It will be using the same site as the previous 1on1 tournament, so those of you that are familiar with that won't need to re-register but just log into the different page that the 2on2 cup/tournament will use.

    First of all there will be [/b]TWO Divisions

    Division 1 and Division 2. - This is to allow players of a similar skill to participate for fun or whatever but have more fun playing people around there skill-level, it will also give teams a chance to win or further progress then having all clans in one huge cup/Tournament.


    [b]Basic Information


    The tournament/cup will have a group stage round then a Single-Elimination knock-out system (will change to Double-Elimination IF YOU want it, please write on this thread if you do) after the group stages.

    You will be expected to play ONE match each week, and one match only..this should not cause problems for any team.

    You are expected to contact your opponents, and have an IRC channel, or contact IRC channel where appropriate, if you DO NOT have your own team IRC channel on Quakenet, then join #nexuiz on Quakenet and find each other there.

    The map-pool will be fixed for the group stages and then in the Single-elimination rounds (Unless you want double-elimination then say) the team will get to pick there maps.

    Elimination rounds for Div1 will be bo5 - best of 5. (due to smaller division expected and more experience) and bo3 - best of 3 for Div 2 !

    Map-Pool:

    Will be announced before the END of PLAYER sign-ups, to give the teams enough time to get and go around the maps before the tournament starts.

    Will be a mix of open and en-closed maps.


    Rules:

    Will be announced a week before the tournament starts, but standard ladder rules will pretty much cover it.

    Registration

    The next part is VERY Important so please read it carefully


    Please write here if you would like to play in the tournament, because of two separate divisions, we need to use two different tournament pages.

    You can have a maximum of 3 players per-team for this tournament.

    I need players to mark themselves out of 10.

    8 being the top European players, so you need to base your rating around that, as a guideline players rating team 6-7 or more will likely be put in the 1st Division, where you will be expected to play against the likes of the high-skilled players, so please rate yourselves realistically.

    The reason for this is because we need you to make sure you sign-up for the correct division as soon aspossible.

    If you are not sure, ask me on IRC and I will advise you, or write here..but you regulars should know how you fair vs players like morfar, ai, fisume, GM, waldi, Lo etc who if participate will be in Division 1.

    It is likely I will contact most of the players anyway to participate in Division 1 to stop less-skilled teams playing in this division, but it just makes less work for me if you sign up to a division that is realistic to your skill.

    If in doubt, ASK.

    There is 'TWO' sign-up phases which I will explain below, it is exactly the same for both divisions, but needs to be done because of how the tournament system works, it's a bit annoying but is the only way to properly register teams

    First of all you need to go to the division you want to sign up for (Please note, if I find higher-skilled players that are in my eye's more then capable of playing in Division 1 and signing up for Div 2, I WILL remove you from the Div 2).

    If you did not participate in the 1on1 tournament from last year, you will need to register, this can be found at the top of the screen.

    Once you have registered, you will need to log-in to SIGN-UP.

    You can find the button at the top bar of the screen, where it says 'sign-up'

    Click on this and follow the instructions.

    If you are a team-captain you will need to CREATE your team.

    To do this, you need to go to 'my profile' at the top bar on the page click it, on the new page you will see it loads up your profile click on 'create team'.

    After clicking this fill out the relevant information for your new team, enter a password and then hit save at the bottom (remember this as you will need it for your members to be able to join).

    Your New team will be completed.

    Now once one of your team's players has registered and signed-up to the tournament THEN you can add them to your team, to do this you will need to do it this way.

    Click on 'my profile' at the top of the page, and then on your profile (for Captains creating teams only) you will see your team.

    Click on your team, and then you will need to copy and paste the link in your browser after it has loaded the new page, and msg your team-member on msn, IRC or whatever you use the link so that they can then go to the page, and click on 'join'.

    Please note that the 'join link' on the team-page is not working (or atleast it didn't work for me) so this is the way I used to give to kyre to be able to join the team.

    Once you have done this, they then to just need to go to that page (the link you pasted to them) click join put in the team password and then join.

    Phase TWO

    After signups close on the 4th August at 21:00CET, the TEAM sign-ups will open on the 5th August 21:00CET, and shall be open for 7-9 days (I will make a news post saying when this will close).

    Basically I will swap the tournament system to accept TEAM sign-ups and not players.

    When I have done this all the team's captains will have to do is log-in, go to 'sign-up' as before, and choose there team from the drop-down box that will appear (your team-name will show) and click on sign-up, and your team will be signed-up along with the players that you invited before hand.

    Afterwards I will remove all the 'player' sign-ups (this needs to be done otherwise both players and team sign-ups show).

    And then after the TEAM sign-ups period closes I will create the groups and the tournament will be ready to run.


    Hope that this is ok I know it sounds a little complicated but it's easy if you follow the steps and is only to get the tournament running afterwards it will be the same as the 1v1 tournament, if you need any help contact me on IRC @ Quakenet channel #nexuiz or #allstars.eu and I will talk you through it.


    Division Admins required to help the smooth-running of the tournament, anyone who could help out msg me, or just say so here.

    2) What is the allowed team size (max) ?
    3) EU only ? Mixed NA/EU ?

  • 1) Not sure how to fix cause i'm a noob :( edit: Think someone did it for me!

    2) Max team size will be 3, to stop clan whoring a lot of players, and to encourage more teams to play, if this will effect people then in certain situations It will be ok to allow 4 players for that team.

    3) EU only at the moment, because I'm not sure if it's possible to put for example all US groups into one Group so they could play each other mainly in the group-stages - Unless you know of a way?

    Secondly, not sure if they have plans to run a tournament of there own yet.

    Forgot to add that each clan will have a wildcard (will be written into the rules).
    Basically if they can not play for any such reason they can use this once to reschedule there match without a forfeit loss.

  • I really wouldn't try setting up a 2v2tdm tournament for the NA scene....We're having trouble doing our own 3v3ctf ladder. Things are very slow at the moment, with hardly any 3v3ctf matches happening. I could see the same thing happening for the 2v2tdm tourney if it was started for NA clans. :?

  • Well two divisions allow people to have more fun anyway, it's just a little bit of fun if you want it to be, or to take it more seriously is up to the teams. However it will have some new maps to be played in 2on2tdm so should be quite fun :)

  • heh, this is a family pc so what gets installed by my dad gets installed :)

    He probably just forgets to un-click the box when bit when installing new updates :)

  • Note: I found out that as long as you create a 'team' and invite your team-mates that it seems it does not matter if you sign up as a player or not, as this is the case I could of probably opened up team sign-ups straight away I THINK.

    Basically it would of just meant team-captains could sign there team up straight away without this player sign-up part! ( I will look into this for the next tournament)

    However it is no problem, just register according to the start of this thread still as a player, and I will open team sign-ups as due planned.

  • Toolbars get installed by applications such as winamp or DivX, basically freeware .. err, I mean "adware" :D

    If you read all steps of the installation procedure of such programs, you can uncheck the installation of the toolbars that come with it, usually. But that would require that one does read it. I do, kojak('s dad) apparently doesn't (or wants these toolbars).

    Now please back 2 topic.

    Too bad I can not participate myself, otherwise I'd have signed up :(

    Then I will only compete if the teams get mixed up so that someone from Div1 is put on the same team as someone from Div2 (names in 2 virtual hats). When I signed up I signed up for fun and there is no fun in losing 100-1. Just saying.

  • Well Pinkrobot, I don't think you will do that badly, I'm not really active and there is still a lot of teams you would play and be able to have fun against.

  • Yes fisume, ok basically I think I'm going to put it into one big division, I think I will also rate all teams equally, this means that you will be in random groups most likely, if we need 2 groups that is otherwise it will be one big 'SUPER' group.

    'TEAM-signups' will open on Saturday morning at 10:00am GMT and will be open for approx 2 weeks, this gives me time to correct the rules and post the map-list within the first week so people can check out the map's and gives me a chance to sort out other issues.

    Reason for one big division is due to lack of signups, however it means I can do more coverage of the matches, e.g match reports and getting demo's up.
