Good point: I'll host them all on my server in a loop I suppose (With default balance instead of my own, I guess... :|). But well, most of these have been played before, and are solid... Although I recommend you at least check out _ALL_ maps that you think you might like before you vote..

  • FrutieX I really like your version of castle :)

Very clean, and less thing's to get stuck on, edge wise.

Cortez, your very cranky lately on the forums

Because Samual threatened me. j/k :P

Note that although the map is fully gpl the soundtrack is not, but that can be stripped quickly enough. I really have to go somewhere today though so I can't do it myself. *I* don't really think it's good enough yet for the comp heh.

Hmm well, i'll add it -- But you'll need to swap the soundtrack when you find the time. -- I know there are possibly bugs and etc, but well... That's fine for now I suppose, just to get the map in :)

  • My opinion on soylent_ctf is this - the roof should be playable as in the dm map. It would be nice to block fc's from using it, but it's not possible without shrinking the skybox to disallow the roof completely. There will be a soylent_ctf_reloaded which does not have connecting roofs and has a lot larger middle area. This soylent_ctf is more for competition, and in competition will have less fc's running the roof and more skilled defenders who (if I reverted the arch in the middle to flat) could use a nex across the map to take out the idiot fc who ran the OPEN roof with no cover. Since the fc didn't care to stick to the part of the map with health items he is likely sitting at 100/100 at best, and would be killed in 2 shots. While this may not be the case in pubs, where the problem is showing up, I am really only concerned with competition. soylent_ctf_reloaded should be done within the week and I will submit to server admins when it's complete. I am still awaiting feedback from more people and will make a decision later on what to do about the roof. I already compiled a v1r8 of what I think is the best, but will submit it only after the discussion is over. Either pm me on irc, go to Nexuiz on FaceBook, or continue here because I willl read them all. I am always open to constructive feedback, but this is a situation where it's likely to stay divided for eternity.

  • voted for castles. dm_castles is my favorite map of the game and I thought it is a great floor plan. It is a small ctf map which feels bigger than it is, allowing the attacker to play all areas of the map. Imo for v2r2 a few hiding spots should be removed (behind the packing containers in the forklift room) and the doorways into the flag perhaps a little bigger to stop spam defense.

  • Ok folks, my server has all the maps (except one, corsair -- It crashes my server for some reason) now.. Problem is, I have no configs to control the game modes, so you guys will need to set up a date/time where we can all go through the maps together. I'm up for Thursday some time, message me on IRC..

Anyway, the server is mainframe.mcintec.net. Right now it's in DM mode, so you can vcall dm maps. (Which is like 7 of them iirc)

Just do lsmaps for the possible options :)

  • Samual - add this to the server config:

    Code: Select all
    alias "play_ctf" "g_lms 0; g_dm 0; g_tdm 0; g_ctf 1; timelimit -1"

restart the server or type "exec server.cfg" then type in server console "play_ctf" or you can add this to sv_vote_commands

I use this method for play_ctf, play_dm, play_lms, etc. on all my servers. It's so easy to implement and switch on-the-fly. Simple way to take the current server without modding the .cfg is in console: "g_dm 0" "g_ctf 1" "timelimit -1" and you may want to edit g_maplist to only include these maps.

  • I'm gonna go for Soylent CTF. I think its definately one of the nicest proper CTF maps around at the moment.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

  • Ok everyone, i've cleared the original votes in favor of allowing people to vote for multiple maps at once! Two of the rules still stand:

#1: If you're going to vote, at least try some of the maps available and pick them based on your overall opinion of the maps... Don't just pick one and say you're done.
#2: Mappers cannot vote for their own map. Although I cannot really know who votes what, please be honest and do the right thing.

    So vote vote VOTE!

  • today we tried hot grounds on dcc plain delight. It was really top fun : ) only trouble is that for ffa dm, most ppl just prefer to stay in the middle (safe, mh) area and shotgun themselves to oblivion : ) . It definitely get my vote though. Also i really love corsair, amazing visuals (tricked the it support to get me a gtx260 yeAY : ) , but something is missing gameplay wise. dont really know what. i still have fun at it though : ) .smelter is also nice, but i prefer positronic : ( more fun ^^

    Heh. Sorry.

Well I agreed because I thought this contest wasn't that serious. Now it's up there, the map is getting criticized as if I had actually intentionally designed it to suck. I don't even think people realize it's my FIRST fully released map, forchrissakes.

It's not that bad in the forums though, admittedly. It's more evident in the servers. Some guys do appreciate it and point out the failings constructively and how to fix them. But some just stomp off saying 'this map sucks' yadda yadda as if it's my fault it got voted into play (I never vote for it), and knowing that I'm there playing too. Makes you wonder for whom you really are making it for anyway if the people getting it are like this. I've asked it to be removed in doku's server for the meantime just so I don't end up totally becoming disinterested in mapping for nexuiz.

Because frankly it's extremely demoralizing for a new mapper to get that kind of responses from something you actually put thought and creativity in.

  • I tend to try and say what I think needs fixed. As I said, internal lighting and what not :P

Don't let that discourage you the map is very imaginative and well made. I just don't personally enjoy playing on it all that much.

I'd say any harsh criticisms are because it DOES look so cool for a first map. Everyone loves and hates different maps. I hate most maps that are in a space style where they are wide open and people just laser you into the void. Or camp. Anyway I forgot where I was going with this... eh... don't give up!

Yeah. I can relate. But with everything you create, music, graphics, etc., there will _always_ be some people that don't like it. I wouldn't listen too much about what people say. Tastes differ too much. Take the constructive criticism and simply ignore all the people that say "it sucks". I create maps from time to time, because i enjoy doing so. Sure, it would be awesome if gamer girls would throw their underwear at me and shout "please do me, your maps are so great". Sadly it ain't so :D Basically motivation is ideally partly intrinsic and partly external. IMHO the intrinsic part is the more important one..
