  • it is a weird system. however, it takes away the great pressure and dramatic art which final K.O. rounds offer, since you can still win and be first in the tournament although you lost one game ^^, as you can perform well in the other two games.

This contest still needs players. There are roughly two weeks left and well beyond 30 players signed up.

So spread the word, tell your friends, news sites and whatever :)

  • I sense it maybe is wrong to give 9 items to the first three players. not so many who see themselves a chance to get there :(

  • as the page officially says people will get notified whether they are in by mail (NOT e-mail)

BTW, all the germans here might read the last couple of posts in the pc-max.de thread ... weird information there about not allowing players outside of germany. I'm asking for better and clearer information

  • okay, I could get a clear statement:

Players living outside of Germany are allowed to play the tournament. However, they will not get any prices if they get ranked 1st, 2nd or 3rd. People who are participating (who signed up on the page) will get informed via mail once registration has completed (once 64 players have signed up).

  • i think that sucks a bit...and why do i have to get contacted via mail and not e-mail...that's silly imo for us 'outsiders'? especially since i dont like giving my information out freely..whcih i didnt.

  • Some more information I was able to find out:

As you know the tournament starts with usual K.O rounds, which means that there are 4 K.O. rounds so that the player count gets reduced to 4 players (starting with 64 players). Please note that in every match in all these 4 rounds the maps "a" and "b" will be played. Once 4 players are left the "final rounds" start, which means that each player has to play against every other player, which means that every player will have 3 matches. In all these 3 matches the maps "c" and "d" will be played. I am the one to judge this kind of system, but I think I may say that I do not like it. However: These four maps aren't defined yet.

All players are forced to play on the Nexuiz servers provided by the PC-Max.de Team. As I could find out the german company hosting these servers is "Gameserver Host", and their servers are located in Franfurt, Germany. You can visit the following page to get some IPs of their "test servers", so that you can at least test your ping:

  • I had initially signed up but was contacted that I could bot get any prize shipped to me so I withdrew to let other folks have a shot at winning those prizes. I was a bit disappointed that they could not ship to a country next to Germany but was pleased that they did contact me about it beforehand. I wish any friends that will compete in these matches fun and success !

  • hey gjuys, i got an e-mail last night about it.

    i'm still slightly confused.

so what are the rukes, also what maps have been picked to be played?. Also when will i know if i play on the 11th / 12th....saturdays are generally bad imo for people but at times i understand thats the way it goes :), but the 11th is really bad for me since its my birthday and made plans which is unfortunate if im scheduled to play then haha :P

im hoping the games will be played on the sunday for my sake :p

but on a serious not, when will we know?

    but enough of my babble.

if someone could help answer the questions above...im struggling to read german :) and my laptop doesnt seem to have the translate page option :P

    thanks.

  • I got a email as well. As the prerounds will take place on two days (since it are about 4 rounds) I guess that 2 rounds will be played on saturday and 2 on sunday. There is no more information given, not in german either.

  • I'm squeezing Simon to gather more and more information ;)

The mappool consists of 6 maps. 3 maps for the four prerounds (where player count gets reduced from 64 to 4 players by usual K.O.) and 3 maps for the final rounds. So far Simon chose 5 of these 6 maps and is still occupied chosing the 6th map. The mappool he gave to me was:
    Soylent Space
    Toxic
    Basement
    Evil Space
    Running Man

Like all of you, I am not fine with that mappool. I just sent him a PM, asking him to substitute Evilspace and Basement (the other maps are fine, imo) with other maps (such as Bloodprison and Warfare). I'm also trying to figure out which three maps are gonna be played in the prerounds.

  • ok, I talked to Simon and I got quite a lot of information:

First of all, both the prerounds and the finalrounds are played with TWO maps, no "best of three" or so.

    The Mappool:
    Runningman (Preround-Map 1)
Bloddprison (map without Nexgun, Preround-Map 2)
    Toxic (Final map 1)
    Soylent (Final map 2)

As 54 People signed up there will be 27 matches at the beginning, resulting in 27 winners. However, to continue we need a even number (28 players), this is why a "lucky loser" of that round is allowed to continue although he lost. Then, with these 28 players, 14 matches are played, having 14 winners, these 14 winners play again, having 7 winners. Again a loser of the previous round is allowed to participate, and then there are 8 players playing 4 matches which result in 4 winners, the final round-candidates

I agree that this method of organising the matches is the best, better than playing a 64 players tournament with 54 players, which would mean that only 22 matches are really played (with 2 players per match) and 10 matches are default wins.

So, here comes the resulting timetable (German Time, Month=Nov 2006):
    Saturday, 11th: 11am - 3:30pm Preround 1
    Saturday, 11th: 3:30pm - 5:50pm Preround 2
    Sunday, 12th: 11am - 12:10am Preround 3
    Sunday, 12th: 12:10am - 3pm Preround 4
    Sunday, 12th: 3pm - 5 pm Final rounds
Sunday, 12th: evening: publishing the rankings and nominating the winner

At Final Rounds, every of the 4 players plays against the other three ones.

Demos are forced for the final rounds, but not for the prerounds.

The tourney tree isn't created yet, they have to decide whether they gonna compute it by a script or do it manually.

and btw: tChr, are you going to broadcast some of the matches ? Or is someone else going to do it ?

  • As already posted in the german speaking PC-Max forum i would like to thank anyone organizing this tournament, all the people that did help with servers, advice, patients, live comments and ofcourse all the players that had the guts to show up. And i would also like ot gratulate the winners.
Despite the chaos caused by a few people that did not show up it was a very very fun weekend and i hope everyone enjoyed as much as i did!
    Thanks everyone!

Our first sponsored Nexuiz tournament if over and i hope it was not the last of it..
