  • I'm pretty sure my system should handle this game fine:

    Athlon64 3500+ 2.2ghz
    1gig Crucial Ballistix ram @ 2-2-2-6 timings
    XFX geforce 7600gt @ 590/1600
    Windows XP sp2

I tried to play just now and I have a horrible lag, like 1 fps jerking during game play. I've turned all the effects down and tried running at 1024x768 and it didn't help much. I had a ping near 100 on the servers I played on so it couldn't be network lag. I'd guess its a driver issue? I can run other FPS games such as Halo at 85 FPS vsync at higher resolutions so I don't understand why I have such lag with this game. Thanks for any help :) I have NV Forceware 91.31 if that helps solve my problem.

  • That sounds like your graphics driver doesn't work for OpenGL...
Are other OpenGL games running fine? (like Quake3, Doom 3 or ET)
If not, try reinstalling your graphics driver (from http://www.nvidia.com, the one windows update installs doesn't work for OpenGL afaik).

  • Yes i also think it had something to do with your drivers. I read about the possibility to disable opengl in the drivers, maybe you want to look around in the control panel for such an option too if the tip from KadaverJack did not help.

  • What about running a local game with letz say 4 or 5 bots? Is it also lagging then?

My and your system should supply quite the same performance, and I can run the game with about 100 to 150fps at standard settings. Either your internet connection is crap, or your computer runs way too much software in the background.

Or you are in big trouble with several of your drivers.

  • Actually playing campaign runs ok, even with maximum settings but online is extremely bad. I have a 10mb/s connection, 300 something kb/s up and my ping in servers was never above 100. I can do opengl fine but I'll try out some other drivers just in case.

There is not difference in playing online or the campaign that might explain FPS drops. Are you sure you are not having packetloss? The PL in the scoreboard. packetloss IS very bad for any game. Are you sometimes seeing a clock being displayed?

  • I´ve had the same problem that during gameplay there was terrible lags and so the game was unplayable cause of that....

I thought that maybe its my line but i´ve got a 6000K/bits line....

I even drop down all the graphics of the game but it was the same lag problem....

Now i know what it is.... i changed my firewall programm....I tryed the game without firewall and there was no lags....so chaged the firewall prog. and now everything is fine with full graphics.

Sorry for my english......im just a F***ing German.......

  • I have the same problem

    Athlon 64 3500+
    Asus KN8 Ultra Motherboard
    2Gb DDR Ram
    Ati Radeon x1950 pro 256mb
This PC should be able to run the game with everything set up at highest.
I have settings on medium and play at 1024X768
cl_maxfps is at 100 and my fps is never below that anyways.
My ping is always low , less than 60 all the time
PL never always remains at 0 % too.

Its like i cant move my mouse for a second or two at a time when on servers.

Are you behind some kind of firewall/gateway? There may be soem kind of local networking issue here. Also, what OS?

I have this too. It's a broken mouse here, loose contact and disconnect when doing wild movement. Just an idea cos it took me some time to figure it out when I had this the first time. But if you don't get this problem when playing locally it can't be the mouse of course. :)

  • Not behind a firewall . Its Windows XP , service pack 2.Cant be the mouse as it doesnt do it in any other game , ie CSS , Quake 3 , Quake 4 , Warsow , UT2K4 etc.Even tried port forwarding the port for nexuiz to the ip of this computer on my DSL router. This made no difference. When it lags the little clock thing doesnt pop up at all.

  • You mentioned using a DSL router. How many computers are sharing this connection at the same time?

Well, I'm asking you like that because I got the same problems when playing at my company. Ping and PL are decent but I just can't move in a reasonable way. You can only solve that by cutting the wires of the other clients or shutting them down. Otherwise your data packets are transmitted completely but in the wrong sequence (I've been told this is called "jittering").

Btw. are you connected via LAN or wireless?

Well, generally, if you have a fluent gameplay locally but it's laggin' when online gaming on servers where others don't have problems, what else but network/internet stuff would you suggest to be the problem?

Different games use different netcodes. So indeed it is possible that there are problems with Nexuiz while there are none with other games. The Nexuiz developers unfortunately can't use netcode from commercial game engines without getting into heavy trouble with their manufacturers.

There's also problems with connections from one to another country (or special providers), even swedish players had issues with norwegian servers.

Do we have any Nexuiz servers in the UK? Would be interesting to know. What would be of interest as well: are there experiences from other irish players with continental servers of other games?

Or can you maybe ask a local mate or whatever to test Nexuiz from another PC and/or terminal point (is that the right expression)?

  • Very unlikely, iirc you would be the first one who has to do some settings in the game configuration. And I dont think it's any router settings.

Do you have the windows firewall activated (sorry if you posted that already, couldnt find)? Have you already tried playing in windowed mode? When doing that, usually a popup window shows up once where you are asked if Nexuiz should be allowed to access the internet.

And/or Open the windows firewall over the security center, look for the "exceptions" tab. Is Nexuiz listed and activated there?
If not, try to add it to the list manually, unfortunately I don't exactly know all the english expressions there. It's the left button directly under the list.

Btw. on my list Nexuiz is shown up three times. I'm not sure if that was the different versions I have installed or if it is the three executables in the Nexuiz directory. So you'd better add all the Nexuiz executables (nexuiz.exe, nexuiz-sdl.exe, nexuiz-dedicated.exe).

  • Its not a firewall problem as the firewall is turned off. There is nothing popping up if i try to play in window mode. When im running around in the game and im trying to aim at people , sometimes the mouse sticks and i cant move it for a second or two.Ive tried using diff mouse drivers and even a diff mouse.ive messed around to no end with grafix settings and this does nothing. Its wrecking my head as to what it is.

  • Okay this is weird like hell. The only thing we can do now is poking around in the dark.

    1. Have you tried both nexuiz.exe and nexuiz-sdl.exe?

    2. Can you try changing your mouse from USB to PS/2 (or back)?

    3. Check your mainboard drivers for new version. I know this sounds like completely far away from your problem, but you can never know...

Another thing I'd like to know is how the "mouse-crash" feels, is it like a sudden, hard crash or is it getting ropy and stops then?

  • Dear Gentlemen,

first of all thank you for the great game.

Unfortunatelly i´m having performance problems since the update from 2.1 to 2.2.1. It became better with update to 2.2.2, but the frame rate is maybe 25% of what it used to
be with 2.1, even when i turn all settings to low or off. There are also lags happening every few seconds. This happens in the campaign mode too, so there is no connection to the internet access speed.

I`m using a Nvidia Geforce 6800 2 Go with 256MB Video RAM together with a 2GHz Centrino and 1GB RAM.

    Thank you very much!

  • Hi Irrlicht.

Hard to belive 2.2.1 got slower.. i have a nv6600gt and did not notice such a thing. Are you totally sure your config.cfg did not change? Maybe you can install 2.2.2 and 2.1 in parallel (two different directories) and compare performance and the config.cfg files for both. Maybe you installed a new driver version in the mean time that did affect performance.

    Hey Pokey.

Can you try to open the ingame console (with shift-escape) and enter
    gl_finish 1
there and see if this helps? (0 is the default, if it does not help you can set it back). It makes the CPU wait for the graphic card and sometimes helps with strange lag problems.. However if that helps the real reason are some bad drivers.. (meaning there is nothing we can do beside to tell you to use that setting. Its off by default as its then nicer on multitasking systems..)
