Hi, I also encounter some problems while trying to join local games, the screen remains either red or black. The other players on the local server see my name in the score table, but the screen remains dark and I have to close Nexuiz with the task manager...
What should I do?? (ati radeon X300/X550, 512Mb Ram, Win XP Pro)

Hi and welcome!

First thing you should do is creating a Nexuiz shortcut on the desktop. then open it and add "+ exec low.cfg" to the command line and save it. Although your card isnt really so bad, it might help.

What sounds a little ominous to me is that you can't detect properly if you VGA is a Radeon 300 or 550. Are you sure to have proper drivers? If not, update!

Another thing you should really do is to get the game run in windowed mode for first. If you can enter the menue, set it to windowed mode. If you can't, you have to edit the config.cfg which you can find in the Nexuiz\data directory. Open it with WordPad and add this line:

Save and close it. Then you are able to see error messages, for example from the windows firewall.

He could also write "exec low.cfg" in the console in Nexzui (and bringing down the console is SHIFT+ESC) then press enter. But I've seen that low.cfg isn't the lowest, you might wanna change texture quality as it doesn't go all the way to lowest, it goes to medium and all the effects aren't turned off. There's maybe a lowest.cfg ? Anyway this's just another way instead of creating a shortcut.

I must confess that red screen thing has my puzzled.. There is absolutely no difference in playing online or locally and online seems to work for him.
Do you mean locally when starting a game via 'create' / 'instant action' / 'campaign' or did you try to setup a local dedicated server?

Well since he can create local games and such (maybe playing online? Esteel confused me) he certainly can start Nexuiz without it being black screen so, thus why I recommended the console thing And also, the thread says "on join" not "when starting Nexuiz".

As GianT hasn't posted at all if he's doing fine with online gaming or not (maybe he hasn't even tried!), I limited my suggestions to getting him able to take a look if anything encounters while starting any kind of local/LAN/online game. The windows firewall asks for permission to access internet at least twice, the first time you join an online game, and the first time you start a local game (maybe for campain as well? dont remember).

But, how about letting GianT tell us what happened in between? GianT? you still there and following?
