  • Hi,
do you have a router and/or a firewall? If so, you must set your router to forward port 26000/UDP to the computer that is hosting the server and set the firewall to allow incomming connections on that port. If you don't know how to forward ports on your router: http://portforward.com/ might help you (use the Quake 2/3 howto, but with port 26000).

  • Also make sure that you enable the "Public Server" option. It's off by default.

  • Having a firewall OFF is a bad thing.. but please read the other posts again. I doubt you are directly connected to the internet, so you need to configure your router to allow access FROM THE INTERNET TO YOUR COMPUTER running the nexuiz server. Those connections are normally not allowed by routers unless you configure them to do so.

  • the thing is i have a modem which i use to connect- i dial up every time. My friend has a always-on type of modem which he uses. I don't think either of us has a router.

Cool.. Havent seen that for a while. I can tink of one or two problems. If your sonnection uses technology that masquerades your computer from the rest of the world, it might be hard for anyone else to find you. Secopndly your bandwith is most probably a little to weak for running a public server. So I was wondering if you would tell me:
    1. Do you see other servers in the server list when you click join, or none at all.
    2. Do you know at what speed you are connected to the internet

or was there a blank screen if there was got to the FAQ page from the navigation when you enter the site

this is another possible reason that your friends internet is slow meaning the list of maps my not have had time to load, or you have entered something in there search for a server, like "space space space".

Uhm.. sorry for the late response.. maybe his firewall is giving problems. There are some that are unable to bring that popup into the foreground when you play games.. Tell him to try to switch Nexuiz to window mode in the options before clicking on join so he should see his firewall popup.
