  • hi Nexuiz is amazing but there are a couple minor glitches i've encountered:
    in OS X:
right mouse click always gives a unknown charcode message, although the secondary fire still works properly. also, i can't host games. i keep getting "unconnected dropped" or something like that.

    in Ubuntu Linux:
XGL session - weird graphics modes... ran windowed the first time, ran in sort of full screen (part of the screen not used, just blacked out).
Metacity - worked perfectly the first time, can't actually play now. i'm going to re-install ubuntu pretty soon anyway, so it's not a big deal, just kinda weird.

    google found me this: http://svn.icculus.org/twilight/trunk/d ... iew=markup

I'm running a macbook pro (core 2 duo) 2.16GHz w/ 1 MB RAM and 128 MB video RAM

  • No idea about the right mouse button, thats the first report about such a behavoir we got! What mouse are you using?

You probably are behind a router of some sort.. did you set it up so that it does port forwarding? Also we got TERRIBLE reports about mac routers, totaly screwing things up.. which one do you have?

As for playing in Ubuntu.. have you installed 'real' dirvers for your graphic card? Normally most linux distributions only come with free drivers installed that perform badly with 3d applications. Try to search google on how to install nvidia or ati drivers on ubuntu.

  • I'm using a Microsoft Intellimouse, but it happens with the touchpad too. occasionally i get two other errors:
    kEventClassMouse (UNKNOWN eventid: 11)
    kEventClassKeyboard (UNKNOWN eventid: 11)

i don't have a router at all. i'm plugged into a school network.

i do have the proprietary ati driver (fglrx) installed (beryl works great, as does blender). is there any way i can give you some debug info?

  • I was told:
LordHavoc wrote:the unknown char code message is because right mouse button is command + left click, AND right click, as separate events, because some mac apps don't know right click

Guess there is nothing we can do about it, except maybe silence that specific message in the next version.

Well ati cards and linux are BAD BAD BAD.. 1,5 years ago i also had a ati card, i got around half the fps in linux then i got on windows, three days later i got myself a comparable nvidia card for 150€ because i wanted to have good fps in linux too. Never looked back, in fact i never looked back at windows too :)
What ati card do you have? Other then lowering the effects i guess there is little to do.. On some ati cards (x800 should be among them) it will help to disable 'Opengl 2.0 Shaders' in the effect settings.. though on MOST cards that feature should be on. But its worth testing.

And from were do you want to have those other players connect? From the same school network?

  • I'd suggest Beryl rather than XGL, Nexuiz runs great in Beryl but badly in XGL, and I hear that XGL is not very ATI-friendly either.

Don't expect much in the way of performance from an ATI card in Linux, they've pretty much fixed all the issues in the drivers and the drivers are very nice to configure now, but they still have very bad framerates (as a rule of thumb, Linux ATI performance is 1/3rd to 1/4th the speed of Windows ATI performance, where as Linux NVIDIA performance is sometimes a little faster than Windows NVIDIA performance).

Regarding that charcode warning, it's very possible that you are using a passthrough keyboard which accepts a mouse and passes the mouse input through to the operating system as if it was the touchpad (a convenience feature, but with possible odd side effects like the mouse buttons reporting as key presses as well).

  • it's the x1600 mobile.

i'm only trying to connect to people on the same network (they're in my suite).

it's weird, now when i try to start any of the linux versions, it can't load a bunch of .ogg files, and the intro music doesnt play. i'll try to post some error messages later.. is there anything i can do about the right click thing for now?

  • you can.. ignore it for now :P

hmm the x1600 should be faster with shaders on, so just try to lower some of the effects (especially real-time-light/shadow effects). I wrote a few posts about how to lower effects with commands in the nexuiz-console.. have to take some time to lookup the controls for those in the menus..

If its really in the same network segment it should just work, maybe your computer does have a firewall running thats blocking connections?

  • actually it's not that it was slow in ubuntu, i was getting segmentation faults. i got the usual "accepted" and "keepalive" messages, but nothing rendered on the screen, and then it would die back to gnome. i'll try it under beryl again.

it's weird, ctrl+click doesn't even work as the secondary fire in the game... something weird is going on. maybe if i map the key to something else using the intellimouse software and then use the same key in the game... i'll let you know.

  • ok so i tried it on beryl, and it works.... 2 problems now:
my gun flashes different colors constantly (appears to be reflected from explosions in other parts of the map?)
    and
still not fullscreen, but i think i can probably fiddle with the command line and get that working.

it looks like a few things arent loading, so here's the output:

  • The messages look okay.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
