  • Well, its a new forum, so I'll post them again here.

    Disclaimer:
-All versions use a directory "hack" to allow for the binary and dlls to be placed in a subdirectory (more on this in the how to install section).
-The SDL build uses a non-release DLL since it is required for x64 purposes.
-This is currentently considered unofficial, but should work fine, the only change to the code from the 1.5 release is the earlier mentioned directory hack.

    So how to install?
Extract THIS package into your Nexuiz directory. It should add a directory called "engin64" The reason for this is so that you can still have 32bit binaries as well.

The 32bit versions will be located in your Nexuiz\ directory.
The 64bit versions will be located in your Nexuiz\engine64 directory.

The 64bit versions all have "64" in the filename for clarification.

So just make sure you are not overwriting your 32bit files and that a subfolder is being made and you should be good to go, just launch the 64bit executable from your Nexuiz\engine64 directory!

Any problems, please post here and I'll address them as best I can.

    Once again, the download is:

  • Good work on the custom 64 bit build ..

Now all we need is stable 64 drivers, Firefox for 64bit , other apps for 64 bit and heaps of other games for 64bit , otherwise you would be running a 64 bit os and nexuiz 64bit and everything else in 32bit mode

  • Win x64 support isn't perfect yet, but it really isn't as bad as people think.

Also note that Windows 2000 (yeah, I know, not a consumer OS directly) drivers were also really bad until XP came along. Win x64 will likely have a similar fate to Vista, with a shorter wait length.

It's just the way technology is unfortunatly.

Also note that 64bit builds of firefox exist, however, most of the plugins are 32bit only. Aside from that fact, firefox would see very little gain from 64bit. Games are slowly making the turn, and once again, when Vista hits things will at least begin to take a turn for the better.

Vista will not be a turn for the better.. Nothing Microsoft has ever out this much effort in is a turn for the better. </rant>

  • I wasn't necessarily saying Vista will be a savior itself, but it will force new drivers either way.
