  • Hi,

unfortunately your log isn't really helpful, since apart from the segfault it doesn't contain any errors.
You could try to disable "OpenGL 2.0 Shaders", that option causes the video driver to crash on some systems (usually with the fglrx driver, but the r300 driver is still pretty beta afaik), that might help... You could also try the lastest test release: http://www.forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?t=1706 (2.3 final will be released in a few days...)

  • I have the same problem... just installed the game on my ubuntu 7.04!

So i launched the game in console after the command "ulimit -c unlimited". Now i have a big core file... How can it be usefull??

Otherwise i played with video options and i found the problem. First of all i deactivated all the effects than i found that the reactivation of the "real time dynamic light" make reappear the problem (crash!).

Tell if you need some info from my core file or i'll delete it (it's 460 mb!!).

(I have an ati x300 se video card)

    Goodbye

Assuming you installed the ubuntu Nexuiz package:
    Install gdb and run
    Code: Select all
    $ gdb /usr/lib/games/nexuiz/nexuiz.bin core.1234
    (gdb) bt
    [copy this backtrace somewhere]
    (gdb) quit

Now file a bug report with ubuntu and include the backtrace (the ubuntu packages are using recompiled binaries, so we don't have debug symbols to translate the numbers into actual filename & lines of the source code)

If you downloaded the official zip file from one of our mirrors, just change /usr/lib/games/nexuiz/nexuiz.bin to the correct path of the binary you used to start the game and post the backtrace here...

Maybe it would help if you installed the ati closed source drivers instead of using the free r300 drivers.. What graphic card do you have?

  • I followed your instructions... the result is the following but i don't know if it's useful at all:

Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault.
    #0 0xb6f0bbb5 in ?? ()
    (gdb) bt
    #0 0xb6f0bbb5 in ?? ()
    #1 0x14fa1230 in ?? ()
    #2 0x12ce12f8 in ?? ()
    #3 0x00000040 in ?? ()
    #4 0x0000000b in ?? ()
    #5 0x00000040 in ?? ()
    #6 0x00000009 in ?? ()
    #7 0x0000000b in ?? ()
    #8 0xbf8a753c in ?? ()
    #9 0x00000000 in ?? ()

During the process, gdb gave a lot of "(no debugging symbols found)"...

I've installed the game using the ubuntu tool to add new programs.

It's not useful to us, report the bug here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/ they should have the neccessary debug symbols to translate your backtrace.

  • Well we can't tell if that report is useful or not, the ubuntu guys have to tell that because your are they only ones that know that sources and settings they used to compile the binaries. But most problably its a crash in the r300 drivers so they can only forward that report..

  • Obviously it is nice to have open source drivers for some of the radeons, but the r300 driver isn't exactly stable yet.

To track progress on the radeon drivers have a look at http://tirdc.livejournal.com/

I'm optimistic one day the driver will be stable. Currently that's just not the case.
