  • Hello, I tried version 1.5. There are good ameliorations. But the memory requirements need to be updated. 1.5 is more hungry in memory. The minimum system requirements says 256Mb minimum and 256Mb recommended. However, I can tell you since I unfortunatly have this much ram, 256Mb is no longuer enough. I can't play the game without swapping painfully every 30 secondes or less. 1.2 was playable with this much ram, but not anymore...

  • Lots of textures have been added.. you might try raising gl_picmip to 2 or 3 that will reduce the texture size in memory but will also make it uglier the higher the number..
You can find it in the menu Options/Video/Texture quality or use the console or the configfile directly..

  • Yes, unfortunately 1.5 requires more memory, mainly because of the new shirts/pants textures.

If 1.2.1 was playable on your system, you can try to decrease the texture quality, that should help. But yes, i agree the requirements need to be updated badly...

I will try that next time I play. Thanks :D

  • I played today and tried lowering texture quality from best to medium (haven't tried good). I know, it's been a while, but I don't have much time to play these days, but's that's an other story. The game is much more playable like that. I would even say it's more playable than ver. 1.2. It's smoother and it no longuer feels like it painfully needs precaching during the first minute or two of gameplay.
I have to say do, I don't know if it's because of the medium quality texture, but some models have the shirt and pants color too predominant, some colors look very weird on them. Same thing for the guns, but for that one, I know it's not because of texture quality, it was the same with best quality. Maybe if you could see the colors of your pants and shirt in the model preview, people could choose better colors.
I agree with those who liked the old nexgun better, I liked it's "alien technology" look , but I must say I prefer it's new "ray" over the old one, it looks much more like what it's supposed to be : an electric arc.

  • Hmm.. lowering the resolution should only help if your graphic ram is low.. how much do you got?

I'm not sure about the model in the options.. There are plans for a completly new menu in 2.0 or something. Maybe its not worth to make those changes now.

  • When I'm at my GF's PC which is an Athlon 1800+ with 256MB RAM and a GeForce FX5200 (128MB), I can play up to 1024x768 (dunno if more cause shitty display) without any problems.

    Thaz how it is. 8)

I didn't lower resolution, I lowered texture quality. My graphics card has 64Mb.
By the way, is there a thread/wiki about the plans for 2.0 ? I hope it need an even stronger computer... (Well, if you have a strong computer and the game can make use of it that's fine, as long as you can turn down graphical effects to make it work on an older one)

He said he has 256MB RAM.
Nexuiz 1.5 is using about 280MB RAM on my system (nexdm01 at default settings), 169MB for textures alone. So it will be swapping at default settings, no matter how much video ram his card has...

  • Try to increase the graphics aperture size in BIOS to 128MB. And one point to check is the hardware acceleration of the VGA adapter (but not very likely to help Your problem)

There is a todo list and a roadmap in the wiki.

But our biggest performance issues atm is not all that eyecandy stuff (you can disable all of it), it's the playermodels (they have way too much polygons and we don't have a modeler to rework them or make new models :() and badly optimized maps (just have a look at the polycounts of nexdm13 or nexdm11 e.g.)

  • ok 256mb ram is indeed a bit low for Nexuiz, but the texture quality does help as it seems. Well we should try to convince LordHavoc to implement texture compression, but i'm not sure its that easy in DP..

Oh and speaking of high poly.. the gibs in Nexuiz 1.5 and earlier versions have been horribly high. In 1.6 the gibs are much better in that regard. For now you can replace the gibs with empty ones. Unless you play in the ladder that is! Its forbitten there. download this file and put it into your Nexuiz/data folder. Just move it to an other folder or change the extension to .pk3_ when playing in the ladder :)
