  • Nexuiz wont work for me. I think its because I have vista. Whenever I join it gets soooo laggy, like 2 fps. I can play games on the source engine fine though. HALP

  • 1. Do you have the right drivers installed?
    2. What graphics card do you have?
    3. Have you tried enabling vertical sync or stepping your graphics settings down?
    4. Try turning on the FPS readout, see if it's just your connection or the actual graphics

  • 1. Do you have the right drivers installed? I can't seem to find the ones for my card. I'm a n00b halpme!

    2. What graphics card do you have? Raedon 9250

    3. Have you tried enabling vertical sync or stepping your graphics settings down? Don't know what vertical sinc is. I don't think its a graphics issue, because I can run source ezpz, and I cant even join the game without the menu lagging.

    4. Try turning on the FPS readout, see if it's just your connection or the actual graphic? Read above

According to the ati/amd website, there are no vista drivers for your card (everything lower than radeon 9500 is no longer supported as it seems) and the drivers vista installs won't work with Nexuiz (or any other OpenGL game).
So you won't be able to play Nexuiz on your system, unless you install another os like win xp or linux or get a new graphics card. :(

There we have the culprit: Your graphics card is a DirectX 8 card. Both nVidia and ATI/AMD only make Vista drivers for cards which support all features of DirectX 9; in the case of ATI that would be Radeon 9500 and up.

The driver provided by MS only supports the most basic features. What it doesn't support is OpenGL, which Nexuiz relies upon. You could try running the SDL version of Nexuiz (nexuiz-sdl.exe); failing that your best bet would be to downgrade to Windows XP.

  • The Radeon 9250 was released in 2005, but the technical design complies to the late 90s however. Actually it should be named "Radeon 8250", according to its technology.

Q3 was released about 8 years ago, and Nexuiz uses quite a bunch of the latest FX technology. So you really can't compare the two games at all.

You wouldn't say DOOM3 should run on your rig because DOOM1 does, right?
