Hi folks,
just to feedback and thank the guys who offered suggestions re the recent lockups i was getting. These occurred even on single player mode.
Found the problem. it seems that Gkrellm ( a desktop monitor prog ) was the source. Shutting it down before play completely stopped the freezes. No idea what it was doing tho.
particular thanks to the guy who patiently went thro process/memory monitoring with me during a game.
JFYI system is Athlon based, running Arch Linux, pekwm, with nvidia gfx.
cheers

Linux hurts ! hehehe
i swapped out to an XP drive to isolate the problem from OS, and altho the gfx looked nicer, i simply can't abide Windows. It just seemed slower.
It took me a few minutes to get past the AV tryna protect me everytime i ran nexuiz, even tho its on the "accepted" programs list.
It locked me out of the desktop screen, and it wouldn't allow hitting any [Accept] buttons, because somehow i'd got stuck between the desktop view and the half way into the GFX mode.
all visible, nothing clickable . Needed Alt-Ctrl-Del + right click to close the AV warning and allow thingsto proceed.
It irritated me i couldn't just pop out of the X server and close the app from a shell.
Heaven don't make me use Windows on a regular basis.
That REALLY hurts.
