I found out that nexuiz can't download maps by itself. I guess this is because I have to use a http proxy to access the web (and nexuiz AFAIK also downloads via http). Is there a way I can get this to work?
thanks in advance for your help

if you are using Windows XP, you can set the environment variable called HTTP_PROXY to your proxy, e.g. "your.proxy.com:1234" (without the quotes). Information about how to set a environment variable can be found anywhere on the internet, such as google.

If you're using linux add
- Code: Select all
export http_proxy="http://foo.com:<port>"
after the first line in nexuiz-linux-glx.sh & nexuiz-linux-sdl.sh (same should work with Nexuiz.app/Contents/MacOS/nexuiz-osx-ppc-agl & Nexuiz-SDL.app/Contents/MacOS/nexuiz-osx-ppc-sdl on osx)

Thanks, this worked

I knew of this possibility on Linux but not that it works on Windows, too

Well... it is the same code.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again
You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Perhaps nexuiz (or libcurl) should use the system settings in windows and not need an extra environment variable, this would be even better.

No idea how to read them... I don't even know where to set them up.
Or do you mean the settings of Internet Explorer? These move around in the registry with each release...

2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

Yes, I mean the settings of IE which also most other programs use. But if that's so hard to do, I thought perhaps libcurl is able to use them

No. Other programs simply just follow the IE settings because they actually USE IE to download stuff. But IE is not cross platform, so Nexuiz can't use it.
