Strange mouse behaviour (abrupt movement)

  • I have a really strange mouse behaviour in Nexuiz. Generally, the mouse moves smoothly, but then at some point it regularly makes abrupt fast long moves (at least in the correct direction :))... The only reason for it can be the mouse speed threshold, but I don't know exactly. It can even be a problem with darkplaces itself. Nexuiz is running under gentoo, 2.6.2x kernel. I tried downloading and installing nexuiz-23.zip as mentioned on the nexuiz.com; haven't tried installing gentoo distro nexuiz version...; now I use svn source code for nexuiz and twilight darkplaces. The problem occured on both versions, but before gentoo, I was running ubuntu 7.04, 7.10, and nexuiz-23.zip version worked correctly (actually I'm trying svn version now because *.zip didn't work). Changed a cupple of vars - vid_*, m_* ... nothing worked. Help appreciated:)

  • Anybody??.....
The desktop is KDE, and so it can be because of KDE mouse settings, because when nexuiz worked under ubuntu, it was running under GNOME (with and without compiz it worked). Under KDE I changed various mouse settings but as far as I can understand nothing changed...
It can't be that nobody ever run nexuiz under KDE........./// Just tell me if nexuiz can run without problems under KDE, I use kde-3.5 gentoo distro version....
    ???:))

  • The abrupt movements occur in menu, in local play (abrupt camera rotates), and are not connection lags; but when in console or when the game is loading at startup, the movement is OK (I think that is because at this time the mouse is controlled directly by KDE - not by nexuiz or darkplaces engine, and the mouse arrow is standard - not nexuiz-ish)

  • Can you tell me what libs (or something else) control mouse input in the menu and in the game (the symptoms are exactly the same in both cases) - I'll try reinstalling those parts, compiling from svn, checking various distro versions...

  • Well, I checked nexuiz-sdl version in twilight/darkplaces; the mouse appears to be working correctly, the movement is rather smooth, but sdl version is too slow, so it doesn't solve the problem...

  • Checked nexuiz-sdl in twilight/darkplaces. It worked!!!! ...at first it worked... without problems, slowdowns, etc..., but when I tried to quit it just stopped responding and all the interface became unresponsive, even Alt+Tab... the only things that worked was Alt+Ctrl+Fn and Alt+Ctrl+Backspace, so any time I needed to quit the game or even switch to another window, I had to switch to another vt console, killall nexuiz-sdl, and return back; the same is going on with fullscreen nexuiz.
It seems that nexuiz-sdl doesn't have vid_dga* so it works correclty with my gentoo and its KDE; but when running nexuiz-glx I set vid_dgamouse... to 0 and then vid_restart not to use dga with no results, so it seems that there is another difference between nexuiz-sdl and nexuiz-glx that solves some problems and causes the other.... Anyway sdl version is much better then glx for me :D

  • Completely solved (but with some tricks) :D ... The quit works now: I updated the svn source (twilight and nexuiz itself), but focus problem remains, though you can switch to console, and after that you can use Alt+Tab, etc .... All this was checked in sdl version...
So this mouse problem is completely solved - at least for me, at least in sdl version, and with some tricks :D ... thx
