  • hey everyone.
    i recently downloaded Nexuiz.
when i extracted it, i double clicked on the .exe's. it would show a weird resolution of my desktop and then go back to the desktop, giving me the error:
"Nexuiz has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvinience"

or something along the lines of that and then the [Send Report] or [Dont Send Report]

i used WinRAR to extract so i used WinZIP but it was still the same problem. does neone know how to fix this? thanks!! :(

  • That message is shown by windows whenever an application crashes after an access violation. I have of cource no idea why it would crash on your computer.

Can you tell us more about your computer? And are all your drivers (esp. the graphic drivers) uptodate?

    AMD Mobile Athlon 3000+ @ 2.0GHz
ATi Mobility Radeon 9700 128 mb

i'm not sure if EVERY single driver is up to date but i can play every other game that i choose to play fine.
but it could be the driver problems?

I don't have my crystal ball with me so i'm not sure 8)
Just a joke. I have a ati 9800pro and Nexuiz works fine. I suppose the mobile versions are able to run it too. (Not sure how familiar you are with those things.. just ask for more info if needed) You can try to start Nexuiz with the command line option -condebug that should produce a logfile qconsole.log in the Nexuiz/data directory and look for error messages there. Maybe this can give a little clue.. Right now i feel like a car machanic and someone just tells his car does not start :)

When i run nexuiz.exe i can see my desktop but i can't click enywhere becouse also ther is no answer from app. 2 days ago everything was ok, i was playing Nexuiz, now i can't :( I use Windows XP prof. Hardware: AMD Sempron2200, Radeon 9600, ecs kt600a, 386 mb of RAM, hdd western digital 120 GB, sound integrated on mainboard. I've unpacked nexuiz again and it is still the same. :( The option -condebug doesn't create any file. Becouse Nexuiz can't start. I've tried to wait few minutes but there is no effect.

  • Well, access violation errors are the most annoying things to happen. Simply EVERYTHING could cause them (I even had those because a hair got stuck between RAM module and its slot  :P ).

First thing I would recommend, be sure to have updated all Your drivers. Begin with the soundcard and mousedriver. Disable antivirus and stuff while installing em.

Get rid of every software not in use.

Run <msconfig> (start-button, run, type in "msconfig") and choose "diagnostig system start" (sry I don't exactly know what's standing there in Your language). Reboot then and try if Nexuiz runs. If it does, choose user default system start (or whatever is shown there in Your language) enable one after the other software module. Maybe You'll find the little evidoer there.

Another think I could imagine is a buggy antivirus or firewall software! So if possible, uninstall and reinstall later.

  • The first thing you do if you are sure everyting is ut together roperly. Physically that is, and before you start using tins of time trying to tweak software, is to check you ram.

download memtest86 (standalone mem diag too, bots from a single floppy) and let it run. If the noremal tstes (takes some hours), and you can leave it running in loop, do the hard tests (this will take a day or two, depending on your amout of ram). If your chips are FUd there is no use in spending lots of time tweaking SW.

memtest86 is free, and it also cheks your chipsets. Basically it writes all possible patterns to all lcations in memory, cache, uncahes, idfferent bitwidthts and checks the afterwards. You can aslo check really interesting stuff like wiether your RAM is capable of holding voltage long enough (timeout test writes pattern to entire memory span, wiats 8 hours, and then reads it :) )

Yes. RAM malfunctions.. often. like 1000 times a second, the question is if your chips are capable of recovering properly or not :)

  • narvik86: When you extracted Nexuiz the second time did you just overwrite the old files or did you use a new directory? If you used the same directory the config file might still be there. (Well i can't really think of a setting that might cause those problems but its worth trying). Just move the file Nexuiz/data/config.cfg to some other place so that Nexuiz runs on default settings and see if that helps.
An other thing is: How long have you waited for Nexuiz to start? Some people have reported that sometimes it takes quite some time to compile the shader at startup. Though normaly it should be quick.
If you use the nexuiz.exe binary do you see any output in the console window? You picture shows one so i guess you know how to handle the console :). The sdl binary does not output to the console but to the file stdout.txt (if i remember correctly). Thats a SDL thing and can't be changed by nexuiz.. Though its strange that the -condebug option does not do anything.

  • Still not working. I've tested my ram with Memtest86 for few hours, there were no errors.
I unpacked Nezxuiz to another direcotry, but i have tried to run without config file. The console didn't show anything, file stderr.txt is empty. My mistake: nexuiz.exe with -condebug shows
