  • You probably do, but just checking. Have you installed drivers for you video card that give you hardware acceleration? There's ati's proprietary driver or the free R300 driver for your card. If you do have them installed, just to do a check, you can run this from the console as a normal user:

    glxinfo |grep direct

    (the | is the vertical bar character, not an "L")

    That should give you a yes on direct rendering. If the problem is not related to this, maybe a compile of your own could help (I have some strange sound problems and have to use the glx version). In the Nexuiz directory, there's a zip containing the source, nexuizenginesource... Extract that, go into the darkplaces directory, and in there from the console, and do a:

    make nexuiz

    You might need some -dev libs for sdl and such, I'm not quite sure how fedora handles the packages. Anyways, if that all goes well, you should get nexuiz-sdl and nexuiz-glx executables (might need to make them executable as well, if you're in gnome, you can right click on them, then properties, then permissions, then check the execute box at top for owner). Then copy both of those files to the main Nexuiz directory and try running them, hopefully one will work for you. Could be a completely different problem still, but maybe worth a shot, let me know if anything said was confusing.

  • Thanks for the reply. It shows I do have glx direct rendering (which was a real pain to get working). When I tried to compile the binary's it starts giving me errors after starting the glx compilation.

    ========== nexuiz-glx (release) ==========
    make nexuiz-glx \
    DP_MAKE_TARGET=linux DP_SOUND_API=ALSA \
    CFLAGS="-MD -Wall -Wsign-compare -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -ffast-math -funroll-loops "\
    LDFLAGS="-O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -ffast-math -funroll-loops -lm -ldl -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lX11 -lXext -lXxf86dga -lXxf86vm -lasound"
    make[3]: Entering directory `/home/###/.Trash/darkplaces'
    gcc -MD -Wall -Wsign-compare -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -ffast-math -funroll-loops -c vid_glx.c -o vid_glx.o -I/usr/X11R6/include
    vid_glx.c:30:22: error: X11/Xlib.h: No such file or directory
    vid_glx.c:31:23: error: X11/Xutil.h: No such file or directory
    vid_glx.c:32:20: error: GL/glx.h: No such file or directory
    vid_glx.c:34:24: error: X11/keysym.h: No such file or directory
    vid_glx.c:35:28: error: X11/cursorfont.h: No such file or directory
    .......

    I do have the /usr/X11R6/include directory but there's only a empty directory in it. I believe I use Xorg instead of Xfree, I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I've been trying to use linux, but its still a steep learning curb.

    From my take on the error it seems to be looking for the X11 directory and I should give it that info but I'm not sure were to begin.

  • Try to install the packages SDL-devel and xorg-x11-devel.
    I'm not sure whether those are all devel packages you'll need, but it's a start...

    Edit: btw, nice folder you're using for compiling, but darkplaces shurely isn't trash :D

  • If that directory is empty I think you might need some X11 dev libs. On debian, mine are in the package: xlibs-dev.

    I'm not sure of the fedora naming scheme for packages though. Do you have a package manager set up for getting other software yet? I think fedora uses yum, but could be something else. Anyways, if you do have some kind of package installer set up, I'd try to see if the xlibs package is installed (it might be named something else). You might also want to check if you have the sdl-dev libs installed as well as I think you'll need those too. If you need help setting up your package manager or something else, just let us know. Perhaps a fedora guru could help as well.

    Edit: KadaverJack beat me :P

    Nope, fedora uses apt too...
    apt for rpm is probably the slowest package manager i've ever seen :(

  • I use Yum atm I read that it was the replacement for apt. After installing the dev lib's (which I shoulda noticed from your first reply sorry missed it) that you spoke of I was able to compile the source. I've got it running now just got a small sound glitch, trying to maximize my video while still playable. Thanks everyone for your help in getting this working.

  • Well the sound glitch can be fixed with "-sndspeed 48000" and/or "-sndstereo" on the commandline.

    Have fun :)
