Can't see powerups, players, weapons

  • I can see the map but all of the power ups, players, and the weapon im holding is invisable.
    I can see the crossairs and weapon effects.

  • no that doesnt help, I also tried enabling depth first and disabling the openGL 2.0 at the same time but It doesnt work. I'll try up dateing the drivers.
    UPDATE: I already have the latest drivers.

  • Do you have Vista? if so this is definetaley a recurring problem which from the account of some older users has started with the 2.4.2 update as before then it seemed fine, perhaps a line of code loading or displaying the models was accidentally deleted or is refering to the wrong variables?

  • I have the exact same problem :(, I wanted to test nexuiz and I downloaded it, but all I can see is the map, I can move around and "shoot", but I can't see my weapon, objects or opponents. I have Windows XP Professional SP2 and my PC is an intel motherboard D845GERG2 with an integrated video card, I think I have the latest drivers they made for that card. Any idea what the problem is or how I can fix it? Thanks in advance.

  • Start by switching to low settings, turning of OpenGL 2.0 and VBO. Does the problem persist then?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

    You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

    Yes divVerent, the problem still persists :( I tried switching every single option on/off in the Video and Effects tabs, using low settings, etc. and nothing seems to work. I don't know what the problem could be, I checked and I do have the latest drivers they made for my card, the card is obviously discontinued though, so they probably won't be making any more updates to it. But still, since I can see the map and move around even with my old card, shouldn't I be able to see the weapons and bots as well? Thanks!

  • have you tried replacing the executable files with the 2.4?
    that was my temporary solution untill a fix is made (or new release without the bug)

  • No I haven't tried that, where can I get version 2.4? BTW just for the record and whoever needs to know this and might find it somewhat useful to fix the bug, I tried the game on Mandriva Linux 2008 with the same settings and obviously my same hardware and the problem was NOT present, unfortunately the game ran somewhat slow even with low settings. But at least you know it has something to do exclusively with the Windows port, thanks, BTW I saw the game running smoothly on a friends' computer and it rocks!! Keep it up!

    Next thing to try is to call it with the command line option -safe, as in

    nexuiz.exe -safe
    1. Open Notepad

  • Hi, i've been on the IRC and no one has any idea. I am using a PowerBook G4 2001 and 10.3.9.

    I got this problem when I downloaded the game yesterday. I am using 2.4.2 and I thought it would be fine as I used 2.4.2 on my school loaner, a Macbook G5 10.4.5, and I don't get that problem there. ( I am however, unable to see any servers, but that might be because of a school block or something, who knows)

    I have settings at Low in effects (which by the way looks exactly the same as Normal but runs faster. :shock: ) with a couple of tweaks of the sliders. I am also using SDL so I can use my mouse, if it helps any to know that.

    Would really like to be able to play... :(

    Edit: Also, what do I call on a Mac? is it still a .exe? or something different? And I am guessing this is done in Terminal? I want to try this -safe option.

    Edit: Just tried Downer. Still everything the same, but I can see the shells (ammo) in the basement and platform. They are models... so it must be a directory problem? Also I checked console, there are no model rendering failures of any kind. :(

  • I have had the same problem...I was running Nexuiz two versions old (? ver 2.4?) and it worked fine, no problems at all with the video. I just upgraded and now can move through the levels and shoot and get killed, but my own player, all enemies, my weapon, all pickups, etc. are invisible. Of note, I *can* see the bullet/rocket trails when I fire, and the explosions. Here is my basic info:
    WinXP SP3 on Toshiba Satellite 2430 with 512MB ram, Intel Pentium 4, NVideo GeForce420Go with 3.2.3.0 drivers (Forceware drivers don't support this card).

    I also have tried -safe mode, almost all video options, full/windowed, etc and no visible objects yet. As I said, it all worked with the previous (2 versions ago) release.

    I hope this info is helpful, thanks for the awesome game!

    Unfortunately it doesn't, and I tried restarting the map after setting the variable, restarting the game too and still nothing :(

  • I suffer the same problem, but I found one item correctly drawn, that is bullet ammunition.

    I browsed through the .pk3 file and found almost all models are having .md3 extension but one item named "models\items\a_bullets.mdl" has .mdl extension. If this is the visible model, internal file format seems to have something to do with the problem.

  • That must be it! someone who has this problem try converting the shotgun model to .md3 extension (I guess they are .ase's?) and if it loads, then a simple patch can be made with converted files.
    Mac user looking for Radiant capabilities. Jk3 Mapper.

    If you mean just rename the extension, I tried it for some of the models/weapons files. IThere are g_*.md3, v_*.md3 and w_*.zym files, and I tried renaming some .md3 to .mdl (shotgun included) and no luck.

  • I can report the same problem. I tried what was suggested but it didn't work for me either. I did, however, seem to get something to show up for the player models after changing the extensions. Instead of a model I got a multicolored cube running around, inverted upwards. Maybe the trick would be to try and get the bullets object not to render? then work from there? I can also report that I have a similar problem in the previous version (2.4 I believe) but a little different. I can see weapons and objects but no player models. I have an ATI x1800xt running on ubuntu 8.04.


    If this helps at all, the game savage 2 has a similar problem displaying character models because of a bug with ati shaders. I'm not sure what the nature of the problem is technically but maybe you guys could collaborate with them for a temporary solution.

    I'll post screen shots of all these problems in a sec.

    edit: well, it changed a little this time. I changed the shotgun .zym and one of the .md3 files to .mdl and ran it. Now in stead of the cubes for player models, the players are still invisible and I get some multicolored pyramids around the map.

  • I tried renaming the extension of the shotgun model but it didn't work, I got the same multicolored pyramid as barky, so I could "see" the bots moving around when they were carrying a shotgun, because there was that funny pyramid moving around. But of course if the bots were carrying another weapon I could see nothing! :shock:

    I thought it wouldn't work, since as I mentioned before all of the models render on my same hardware when I run the game under Mandriva, but it runs somewhat slow to be playable. But hey, I had to try it :wink:

    Any clues yet as to what is the problem? Thanks

  • update for me:

    well, i got it working. As it turns out, for some reason linux doesn't like me playing from the zipped file from sourceforge. I downloaded 2.4 through synaptic (im on ubuntu 8.04) and it all works now. Now my curiosity is spiked because I have no idea technically why this is so. I guess I'll update through the patch to 2.4.2

    btw thanks to mookow for suggesting that i do this

    edit: well, all works now. Apparantly I'm not supposed to run the nexuiz.exe file, but the nexuiz-linux-gxl file. Game runs great too.
