I use ffmpeg on linux for converting my raw videos to .flv files at 1600 bitrate.

However, the quality is reasonable at 181mb but the crosshair could barely be seen due to the pixel blocks on the video despising the quality.

Any idea how to improve the quality without affecting the file size for internet?

Avidemux cannot open or save .flv files so I resorted to ffmeg.

This is the code I use in terminal for converting:

ffmpeg -i dpvideo000.avi -ar 22050 -b 1600 -s 640x480 movie.flv

-i = input file name
-ar = audio rate
-b = bitrate
-s = size

You are probably using an outdated version. Both import and export works fine for me with 2.4.1...

The quality must be excellent despise the file's size?

I captured the game on high resolution (1280x768 i think) which resulted in a 30gb raw avi then converted to .flv using 1600kb bitrate (at 640x380) which results in a 181mb flv video. Was that a mistake? Should I capture it in 640x380?

I'm no expert either, but i don't think there's anything you could do with ffmpeg (or any other encoder). I would recommend to use a larger crosshair with no transparency for recording.

Should I capture it in 640x380?

You could save a lot of time and hdd space by doing so
the result should look pretty much the same, maybe even slightly better, depending on scaling algorithm...
