  • The 2.4 version worked, and then i messed up the patch process...
I then downloaded the 300mb 2.4.2... and my problems started
I've tried both the normal EXE and SDL version...
I have the video settings set to low, and the textures to lowest
The nexuiz folder is on the desktop
    My specs:
    Windows XP SP2
    CPU: Pentium 4, 1.6ghz,
    Motherboard: Acer S81M

...anything else i need to put up?

    Hey, I don't quad-post!

Well, I don't know much about my computer. It came to me refurbished and I'm not sure what the video card is... oh, here it is:
    SiS 315_315E
    32 mb internal RAM

Heck, I've never heard of that type of card before...

For the record, I got my first version of nexuiz from an Australian PC User DVD. That was version 2.4, and it worked absolutely 100% fine. Well, except for the fact that an annoying little yellow box floated around the screen telling me to update, lol

  • Well sorry it's a horrible card for nexuiz. Unfortunately the engine change included with the 2.4.2 version cause the problem with your card.
A work around is to use the full 2.4.2 version, but you replace nexuiz.exe by the one coming from nexuiz 2.4

  • So just to get this right, I swap the nexuiz.exe file from 2.4 with the one from 2.4.2
And I have all of the 2.4.2 stuff but the 2.4 nexuiz.exe in place of the 2.4.2 version

  • Nexuiz 2.4.2 is the hotfix version of 2.4, there wasn't many gamecode change (related to the game). Most change was in the engine (rendering, prediction code, etc.). So the engine from 2.4 can still run, I think, the 2.4.2 gamecode (not much different than 2.4). The only problem I see is when Nexuiz 2.5 will be released, playing on the new servers can be not fully compatible.

  • Alright -
    Download Nexuiz 2.4
    Download Nexuiz 2.4.2
Unzip them both to SEPERATE folders
Get the nexuiz.exe from the 2.4 folder
Put it into the 2.4.2 folder
    Overwrite the 2.4.2 nexuiz.exe with the 2.4 nexuiz.exe

    It worked for me!

  • For fix it, only change the option "Extension Limit" in NVIDIA Control Panel to off, it's working for me. (i always check it, becouse many games have problems with this)

I seriously doubt changing a setting in NVIDIA's control panel will do anything for a system with a Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) 315E graphics card ;-)

Anyhow, in theory the 315 is slightly slower than a GeForce2MX, but i don't think it will come even close in practice due to inferior OpenGL drivers. I'd expect some bugs as well :-(

  • on my 2-year old IBM laptop on which quake3 runs perfectly.
as it is now, nexuiz is badly tested (you only take the big fat pc's for testing?)
and therefore a waste of time. i will not try any strange workarounds -
as it does not run out of the box, i'll simply delete it.

  • LOL such comments make it rather easy to NOT help you.. or maybe others that have the same problem? Do you really expect that a game made by hobbyists has the same quality as a game with million of doloar behind it? Sorry to say but either you think too simplistic or just like to act like an asshole.. Even commercial games DO have bugs on some hardware, would you tell them the same crap?
Actually this responce is already to long for you attitude..

  • I have exactly the same problem on Linux with Nvidia 7600 2Go video card. The problem is only when started as not-root. I have tried deleting the .nexiuz directory in my non-root account, but this is not helping.

Are you sure you have the 'real' nvidia drivers installed? Does the shell command glxinfo | grep -i "string\|direct" output? For me its like this:

    direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
    server glx version string: 1.4
client glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
    client glx version string: 1.4
    OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 8800M GTX/PCI/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 2.1.2 NVIDIA 177.68

The direct rendering: Yes is the one very important line.. the others might help to find the problem..

Runing the game in sudo helps, but I just hate starting it from terminal every time. Everything worked in earlier Ubuntu, but since switching to Interpid... :(

  • Install newer drivers and see if that helps (should).

  • There are no newer drivers in the repos and nvidia doesn't bother packaging its drivers in deb archives. Don't want to compile them either, it makes a mess out of the system.

Edit: I've just checked, there are no newer drivers than these on nvidia's web site.

  • Ubuntu 8.10? Try turning off desktop effects, and expect generally bad performance. See the Ubuntu 8.10 thread for more workarounds.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

IIRC, this might happen if you don't have permissions of the "video" group.

Go to user administration dialog and add this group to the list of your group permissions. And then check if it helps.

Yeah, this seems to solve the problem, although for some reason I had a load of problems with usermod -a -G command, it just wouldn't add me to video group. Running chmod 666 /dev/nvidia* also helps, but you would need to do it every time, so it's good to try once and see if it helps with the problem.

Thing is that now if I try to run nexuiz-linux-sdl.sh script I get problems with cursor not responding and screen flickering, so I have to run nexuiz-linux-glx.sh, which means I don't have sound.
