Decals go over the edge

  • This bug likely happens to many games and is a minor issue though it would still look better if fixed. If you fire a weapon next to the ending of a wall, the decal will go out of bounds and basically sit in the air, rather then being clipped at the end of the wall.

  • good god...
those decals should block bullets and amke it look intentional....
i do belive that it woulde be unique then

anyways this looks like something was was found rigth after the current version came out, and was just added to the next set of changes...

although i dont know of that and this could be the first time its came up, but what are the chances someone actaully shoots near the edge, and thinks about it long enough for him to care? if any1 shots at the corner of the wall, and stares at it , there an easy frag anyways, although if this game does reach a final version that should definetly be fixed

  • A final version? Nexuiz is an ongoing project, with no projected "end."

As for the decal thing, that quirk has always existed.

  • IIRC decals aren't on by default in Darkplcaes, this is why.

Last I heard it was a little hard to fix :?

The bug is older than Nexuiz 1.0 as it's a Darkplaces bug however in Darkplaces decals are off by default, for this very reason. If Nexuiz set decals to off by default, this would at least mean it wouldn't look wrong, even if you didn't get decals.

Just think about the possibilities of hiding behind an edge decal to confuse the enemy...
    Make them even larger :P

  • well i thought about it for a second when i posted final version...
    an dit WILL come
either when all interest is lost in this project (not very likely)
or when all there is no further point in updating the source code... so that modeling/mapping becomes teh main focus

dont get me wrong... it is a ways in the future

    but it WILL come

sorry if i made it seem closer than it is

btw hiding behind decals would rock
but i think decals should temporarily block bullets...

    it be kinda cool

wouldnt make much sense but itd be fun

  • Is it possible to clip the decal pane along edges like in Q3?

  • that depends on few things
    major ones include:
where the decal is created (rendering engine or game engine)
how the game engine deal with edges
and finally if it should be treated as a bug or a feature...

although tossed around jokingly earlier, using them to hide is not such a bad idea...
then u could put others around just to fake ppl out

id say in this kind of a community, at this point... its the general publics decision if it should be clipped

if it matters i vote that they act as temp walls
they stay the way they are but if a bullet comes in contact with it, it hits the decal...
making for sum interesting team play strategies :P

  • Basicly i do not think that decals can block stuff from a technical point of view (i assume they are just effects and not exported to the game engine) and i also think that Nexuiz is way too fast to make this a usefule feature. It works in slower games, for example enemy terriory quake wars has deplayable shields.
