I downloaded nexuiz today because some gaming friends of mine recommended this game.
It works great until i specify a playername in the multiplayermenu!
If i choose a name and whatever i do if i click apply immediately or not and quit the game or if i create a server and play "offline" against bots and then quit the game i cannot get the game to start again properly. The game is loading and the starting screen with the big nexuiz sign appears and the sound is hanging in a short loop and the taskmanager tells me that there is no response from the program.
When i delete _cl_name "...." in the config nexuiz starts up properly again.
I am running it on winxp
intel core2duo 6300
nvidia geforce 7900gs
2gig ram
soundblaster x-fi fatal1ty
As nexuiz is running properly with reasonable fps without defining a playername (or defining a playername and not restarting) i don't think my system is the problem.
If someone could help me it would be very appreciated.

Have you tried running nexuiz-sdl ?

Are you trying to give yourself any weird nicks? I mean, which one?

I tried it with nexuiz-sdl and the resullt was the same.
No strange nick just "tryhard" without the ".

Strange, this is a totally new problem.. Did you just download 2.4.2 and unpacked it? Or did you update an older version? Both should just work, but making sure.
Can you start the game with paramters -condebug +developer 1 and show us the qconsole.log that gets created then?
Might be too big to post it here, maybe you can upload it to some pastebin service.

I downloaded nexuiz-242.zip yesterday. Never played it before. Had to do it twice because the first download was corrupted. Second download also checked with 7zip was ok.
I found a way to "solve" my problem temporarily now.
If i start nexuiz with a new config (config in data deleted before starting) /or a config that does not include the line _cl_name "something" and being online also and i can set my name to tryhard for example and then search for servers, and there are lot of servers showing up, i can play with this name offline. But i think i can only restart nexuiz once and about the second time i restart the same short soundloop thing with the nexuiz sign is happening again.
So what i did was just delete the config line _cl_name and start as a new player again like the game is supposed to start without losing the changes (i did not really change much only gibs 0, cl_maxfps 125, and autochange weapons off and showfps)i made in my config exept the name.
I know this is not really a solution to my problem that also may be experienced by others so your suggestions with the qconsole.log is a nice idea. I will try that and post it on pastebin.com. Never used a pastebin service before so i hope it will work.

btw: i have seen your gallery- signaturelink and i am wondering how you get these looks to nexuiz.
The health items and the weapons look fantastic!

Yet another Edit: I played online now for the first time and as strange as it may seem nexuiz seems to work properly.
Started it three times offline now in a row without any problems after being online on a server for the first time.
I hope this information is somehow useful.
And another Edit: Started my computer today, tried to run nexuiz and the loop problem is here again without having changed anything to the config that worked well before.
