  • Ok, I start up Nexuiz, click join and nothing happens. I've tried using both exe's and the |Instant Action| button works. I'm running Zonealarm and giving Nexuiz full permissions. I have port 27950[UDP] forwarded through the router in my modem, and the linksys router I have. Can somebody tell me what's wrong?

P.S. Nexuiz 1.21 worked so much better!

Yes, it certainly did    , and the next version is going to take even more of a performance hit    . I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found Tremulous.

I actually have no idea why it's not working. It sounds like you have a better grasp of the situation than I do. One of the other members should be able to help. This is for Windows XP, correct?

Oh, and welcome to the forums.

Try starting Nexuiz in windowed mode. According to other people's reports, zonealarm is still showing a popup when Nexuiz tries to query the master server, even if you already have granted full permissions.

You should not be so fast with your ratings. I guess you have not seen the new engine in action.. I yesterday tested Nexuiz 1.5 (the CURRENT version) with the engine included and the current development engine. I got 92fps with the 1.5 engine vs 132fps with the current development engine. Thats a rise of 40fps or almost 50% MORE!!!

And on the other hand its also not completly right that the next version will take "even more for a performance hit". To create bump and gloss effects (those things that make a map look cool :)) the engine needs information about the light near the texture.. in the current engine that can only be done with the realtime lights active. Those are slow and are not placed troughout the map as this would make things very very slow. So you currently get bump and gloss effects only at high costs and in small parts of the maps.
The next version does include deluxemapping. This thing does not need realtime lights to create those effects but the normal lightmap (if the map is compiled in a special way). So while its true that those effects will indeed be a small performance hit its still WAY faster because you can disable the very slow realtime lights and the map will still look LOTS better then right now.
Yeah i did post a few screenshots that show very low fps but those have been with realtime lights enabled. This makes things slow but it would not look much different with RTLights disabled but it would be much faster. So to sum it up the next version can look way better then the current but still be faster :).

did you try to connect directly through the console ?

1 - shift+escape to open the console at any moment
2 - then type "connect serveur.oligraphes.com" (its an example, but a server that is always up, so if it doesn't work you're almost sure that it's not the server...

    Does it work ?

  • I had the same problem... But i solved it!

    I have ZoneAlarm Security Suite

All you have to do is to set a max trust level to nexuiz.exe and add an expert rule in Firewall:

    Permit
Protocol: UDP, destination port: 27950 , source port: all

  • Software Windows Firewalls are crap,
youre better off with a Hardware Router with firewall to protect youre internet connection or a Linux Distro with firewall to share/protect youre internet connection

  • Note: the router does not actually need a feature called "firewall" since it doesn't mean anything there anyway (usually all that the option does is prevent others from pinging your router - woah, what an improvement).

Packets to not forwarded ports without an established connection won't reach your PC anyway because the router doesn't know which IP to send them to... so it does the same as "software firewalls" actually can do already. Application filtering does not work anyway.

    What's more important:
    • active FTP forwarding can be disabled (it's often easy to break in with that)
    • never use the DMZ option
    • more than 10 port forwarding slots... for me 30 would suffice (alternatively: support for forwarding port RANGES)
    • simple packet filter rules (deny tcp from any to me 39000 in)
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Once you turn off software firewall's and any Antivirus/spyware software that blocks applications you should get a server list like this :
