  • Hi,
I've got the same problem than this one http://alientrap.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2960
Nexuiz sometimes craches with error message:

    Received signal 11, exiting
    Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Running with ubuntu 7.10 64bit, RAM 512 Mo, nvidia geforce 6200 turbo cache, nvidia driver 100.14.19

In the post I linked, anonyMouse suggest the problem is thermal related. Doesn't it strange ? Can I hope for a better solution than open my pc, like him ?

Do you think I must try to compile Nexuiz myself ?

    Thanks for any help.

  • Well, compiling the current state of the engine may always help.

To see if it is thermal related, you may try using nvidia-settings to underclock your card.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.

I just played, monitoring the nvidia temperature.
Nexuiz crashed again, the temperature was ~63°C. (The temperature for basic desktop usage is ~51°C. )
So, I don't think it's a thermal related problem. The default slowdown temperature threshold is 145°C and 63 is less than half this value.

(but 145°C seems a really huge value, no ? )

I'm not really experimented on compiling programs. I haven't seen tutoriel about on the forum. Maybe you know where can I find advices to try compile Nexuiz ?

  • http://icculus.org/twilight/darkplaces/ ... 081004.zip - try binaries from there first (latest one compiled by lordhavoc). To compile the engine you need to get source from svn using svn client:
    Code: Select all
    svn co svn://svn.icculus.org/twilight/trunk/darkplaces darkplaces

Then enter into source (in this case, darkplaces) folder and run make. Read the options and chose wanted one.

  • Thanks,
    But I'm sorry, I don't understand.
I copy darkplaces-linux-x86_64-glx in my nexuiz directory, and execute it, but it tell me to pass the game directory as -basedir parameter.
So I try differents paths, using
    darkplaces-linux-x86_64-glx -basedir xxx/xxx/xxxx
    but nothing work.

I don't understand the link beetween darkplace and nexuiz.

    Can you explain me ?

  • Are you sure you have data folder? Run appropiate .sh script.

    It should look like:
    --darkplaces-sld
    --darkplaces-glx
    --darkplaces-dedicated
    --various libraries
    --data
    ------./dataDATE.pk3

Darkplaces executes content from data folder, nexuiz is that content. :) Darkplaces engine was renamed to nexuiz to keep consistency.

Don't worry about the language, nexuiz has french community too:

  • rename it to nexuiz-linux-686 before running it.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Ok divVerent, rename darkplaces to nexuiz work.

Or, Alien, without renaming it, it's necessary to add -nexuiz option to command line :
    ./darkplaces-linux-x86_64-glx -nexuiz

So, I have to test now, and I will come back here to say how it work.
    Thanks.

(Alien, I have seen the french forum. I post here because this forum is more popular. But you're right, if I find the solution with your advices, I will post the solution in the french forum)

  • I've sucessfully compile it !
I just ran make cl-nexuiz ( I've not found any others options). Quite proud to read error messages, find missing lib, install them, etc.
    I obtain a nexuiz-glx.

    I've tried it and ........................
    ....suspence............
    ............ CRASH !

Same error : core dumped, after 10mn playing.

Did I forgot some specifics plateform parameters with make ?

  • Hmmmm...
I've got the same problem with windows xp.
May be a graphic card problem, after all.

  • Run with some debugger. Might be corrupted memory problem too. Use memcheck to check.

  • Thanks for this advice.
I will try, but later, because I'm too much busy now...
( And I never ran a program with a debugger, so I have to learn to )
