  • Hi, im having HUGE mouse lag in this game,
I dont know whats going on, the gfx look fine but all the way starting when the intro movie comes up i start having this lag. In game its all smoot frame rate but the mouse lag makes it unplayable. Were talkin i move left and it takes a good second for the game to react.

Im under gentoo linux and im not having any lag in other games like chromium or kde etc...
I have 1GB ram, an Athlon xp 2600+ with a radeon 9600se with the latess ati-drivers.

    Suggestions????

  • I have this too, with the latest fglrx drivers. It is particularly noticable in the menu.

  • no, my mouse has always lagged with nexuz-linux. I have tried different versions of the drivers, and different mice, but the problem persists,
I just compensate by shooting lots of rockets and mortars; those have a large radius.
Using nexuiz-windows, the mousespeed was fine. Also, my mouse runs realtime in XGL, although the game is unplayable running XGL since it doesn't load all of the extensions.

  • I think XGL uses the OpenGL stuff exclusivly thats why games do not work with it..
I'm using debian unstable with a nv6600gt and everything include the mouse does work fine. I can use both the -sdl and -glx version of Nexuiz without problems.

Hmm there somethings comes to mind.. do you have dga disabled in your xfree/xorg config? Something like
    SubSection "extmod"
    Option "omit xfree86-dga"
    EndSubSection
Try to remove that so that the dga module can be loaded. You will have to restart X afterwards and test Nexuiz again.

  • I do not have that in my xorg.conf
I do have the extmod Module loaded:
    Code: Select all
    Section "Module"
       Load  "i2c"
       Load  "bitmap"
       Load  "ddc"
       Load  "dri"
       Load  "extmod"
       Load  "freetype"
       Load  "glx"
       Load  "int10"
       Load  "type1"
       Load  "vbe"
    EndSection

but that is the only time extmod is mentioned.

  • I just copied that bit from some webpage as i do not have a xorg.conf at hand. Also it was just some idea. I never had such a problem..
Think its fine as long as you do not have such a "omit xfree86-dga" in your file.

  • I just noticed that the mouse lag disappears in the 'Join' section of the menu. It reappears if I go to 'Create' or 'Options'

Edit: the mouse does not disappear, the lag disappears :)

  • Hi guys,

I checked my xorg.conf i dont have ommit xfree-dga either
i clicked on the join menu and in my case i still have lag in there

(btw is your join menu empty or is it populating with servers as it should?)

I just loaded a game by accident after stumbling in the join menu and realized that the lagg doesnt only affect the mouse... every input is delayed.
I press a key to turn on the keyboard and it takes a second b4 the screen reacts to it even though the rendering is very smoot.

another thing i realized, when i first start the game for a few seconds i have a black screen with a mouse cursor, there is no lag there at al until the intro movie comes up. Though it seems to me that the intro movie is having some issues playing, its skipping.

Seems to me as this might be related to the sound issue?? when the video skips the sound seems to skip at the same time. The guy says welcome to NEX NEX NEX NEX NEX NEX NEXZUIS.... really weird. (yes i do use -sndstereo)

The 1.5 package is listed as unstable in the gentoo portage tree... i guess thats why.
im going to unmerge the 1.5 and try 1.2 which is listed as stable will see what happens.

  • My Join menu populates with servers. My mouse lag seems to come from the menu, I think.

  • I just compiled darkplaces-cvs, and I still have the mouse lag problem, in both nexuiz-sdl and nexuiz-glx.

  • I have also noticed that mouse sensitivity seems to be completely different in all versions, even if FOV, resolution, sensitivity, and everything else is all set the same.

  • You appear to be the only ones affected.

Can you try building a glx binary instead of the SDL one that is supplied?

How much lag are we talking about, Dave?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Just to let you guys know i tried some other games to make sure it wasnt my system...
    I installed Cube
    http://www.cubeengine.com
and its working fine no lag at all in the controls....

not sure why nexuiz is affected and nothing else...

btw i did try the glx binary with version 1.2.1 and i get the exact same thing.

We need more information about your system. Are we talking about IN GAME lag? The MENU LAG problem is known and very hard to fix (because it's a thing between engine and menu game code and the engine is just what Nexuiz runs on). In-game lag however would really be a serious problem, however nobody else reported that so please be more specific about your system. Did you try toggling m_filter?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

  • I also have a Radeon 9600 card and I'm having the laggy mouse problem when running the SDL version on Linux. The GLX version does not seem to suffer from this problem, which in the SDL version not only affects the menu, but also seems to affect the gameplay to a leser extent.

I also have an AC97 card, and therefore the starting script adds -sndspeed 48000 to the command line. I found that the SDL version also suffers from some audio artifacts/lag in the menu, and maybe also in game (I don't quite remember now).

I don't know if it's of any relevancy, but my card's refresh rate is fixed to 60 Hz, as it is a notebook and I'm using the LVDS screen. The in game refresh rate with all preferences set to factory settings is between 30 and 40 fps for both versions.

Edited: to remove supposed workaround for the SDL version that was just me running the GLX version accidentally.

  • The -sndspeed 48000 should no longer be needed as the sound engine now detects the sound cards better. And if -glx does run better for you then thats fine. sdl is still far from being a perfect library :)

Great to know, but the nexuiz-linux.sh adds -sndspeed 48000 for my hardware by default, and also always uses the SDL binary. Moreover, the original poster was having this same problem, and I bet that many people will be using this script to launch the game and thus risk having this same problem.

    Cheers.

No, not at all. Read my first post in this thread, that's the one that counts. After that I was just telling you that this command-line switch is added by default by the bundled launch script, which also defaults to use the SDL version. It might be a good idea to change it to use the GLX version if, as you said, the SDL version is a bit buggier.

  • Problem is that its hard to know which one will run better. It does depend on the system. the sdl version would not be default if it were worse then the other one :) There was even a version (think 1.5) that did only ship the sdl version. Maybe it is a good idea to add scripts for both versions now that again both are included..

The default switch is still valid though not really needed anymore. It should not do any harm..

  • All I did to solve this problem was go to Settings -> Video and then untick the box which said "Use OpenGL 2.0 shaders". After that the problem went away entirely.

  • I have a really bad mouse lag, too. I'm using Nexuiz 2.5.1 SDL for Linux. The problem doesn't go away even when I set every single option in "Settings > Video" and "Settings > Effects" to the lowest possible setting! The lag is in every single level except for Level 2 in the Nexuiz 2.5 campaign. The lag never shows up when you first start up Nexuiz. It only shows up when you enter a level.

I'm using a Mobile Intel 965 Graphics Accelerator, 2GB of RAM, and anIntel Pentium Dual-Core
Processor. This lag makes many levels completely unplayable because cannot move my player around
    properly. Can somebody help me???
