  • Hello, i am new to this game and just installed it several hours ago, i went to the IRC channel and asked, and they told me i would get better help here. So here i am. Well, Nexuiz can load the levels fine, but i have no weapon models and when i try to fire the weapons it thinks i have, it freezes up, and crashes. Also i am running on windows. Thanks for the help in advance. It looks like a nice game, i will hope that i can play it if a solution is submitted. :)

  • Most likely a problem of your graphics drivers. Intel onboard?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Catalyst is the name of the ATI graphics driver.

If you didn't install it but are using the drivers that came with Windows. These don't support OpenGL well.

In any case, go to http://www.ati.com/ and download the current drivers.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

  • Try on the console:

    gl_finish 1

Also, try uninstalling software that might have come with your mouse or keyboard. Mice and keyboards work without installing weird "drivers".
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

  • Trying to run Nexuiz on an 8 years old Mobility Radeon 7500 with 64MB RAM (or even less) may take some more than setting the effects in the menue to low.

I wouldn't say it's completely impossible to run Nexuiz under those circumstances, maybe this forum thread by lovely esteel will get you some further steps to solve your problems::

    http://forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?t=1628

However, I'm not sure how far it's still according to the current Nexuiz version.

  • Copy the lines, open WordPad, paste the lines into it, then save it as file named config.cfg into the folder "Nexuiz\data".

Alternatively, you can also download and try this file which is written by somebody who's using an older laptop as well::

    http://urmel.planetnexuiz.de/Misc/extralow.cfg

Copy this file into > Nexuiz\data, then start Nexuiz. Open the command console by pressing [SHIFT]+[ESC] at the same time. Then type in the following command:

    exec extralow.cfg

and press ENTER. Press ESC for leaving the console and start or join a game.

Read Nexuiz/Docs/basics.html and tell us what you think about the tips there :-)

On the other hand i wonder what option in that config file did the trick for you..
There are lots of non-related settings in that file and some funky ones (cl_movement "0" for example should always be 1, or at least for like 99,99999999% of the people)

    gl_max_size "1024"
    gl_picmip "8"
    gl_vbo "0"
those look like they could have helped. The first one is 2048 by default but set to the limits of the graphic card automatically if lower. It can act similar to the second option for large textures. The second is the texture quality in the menu, and the third are the vertex buffers i asked to disable.

    r_picmipworld "5"
thats wrong, this setting is just 0 or 1 (well 0 or NOT 0 thats why it still works..) it makes the settings gl_picmip also work for the level texture.

    r_dynamic "0"
    r_shadow_gloss "0"
    r_shadow_realtime_dlight "0"
    r_sky "0"
Those are also set/disabled when using the default low config (except sky but sky is hardly taxing the graphic card at all)

So i really wonder what did help :)

Unless i missed something, those are the settings from urmels config that possibly could have an effect in this matter at all. Maybe you can test if only those settings already help? If you delete config.cfg you basicly start at default settings. Just use those few lines instead of Urmels long file and see if that helps too. And then maybe by deleting line after line, deleting config.cfg and restarting see which of those option(s) did REALLY help? That could prove useful for others and also to learn more about why you are having this problem..
