  • What's wrong?

With older versions of nexuiz i never had this problems?
    1.5 still works!
    I've checked all firewall settings!

Are there changes in the 2.0 serverlist?
    What can i do?

  • Effective in 2.0, it will filter out incompatible servers (anything before 2.0 is incompatible) So there really aren't servers to play on yet as this was mostly a test release.

The reason for this is you can still connect to the incompatible servers, but things will be messed up (player point of view, spectating, missing/renamed maps, etc...)

  • Yeah it will filter older server versions but at least yesterday there have been 2 - 6 Nexuiz 2.0 test servers online. If Nexuiz 1.5 did find some servers 2.0 should too. As tChr said it might be slower right now because of the filtering..

  • I noticed the windows firewall security warning was popping up the second or third time I started 2.0, it was the first time I started it in windowed mode. So I don't know if it already popped up the first time when starting in fullscreen mode. Worth to check that...

But most important thing (like esteel and willis already mentioned): it takes a little longer time until the servers appear. So, patience, patience.... 8)

First: Be sure You downloaded the right forum release. Before about 14 o'clock the link on the forum was bad. The file archive has to have the name nexuiz20060611forumr.zip (not nexuiz20.zip).

Second: Don't try to extract the files into the 1.5 directory. Make a new one.

Third: You can't either play on 2.0 servers with 1.5, nor the other way round.

At this hour, all 2.0 servers run the forum release.

  • There seem to be 5 Nexuiz 2.0 test servers online at the moment..
    http://www.planetnexuiz.de/index.php?op ... &Itemid=50 and search for 2.0.
Those should show up in the server browser list however Urmel is right it might be your firewall blocking Nexuiz. Its a new binary so you will need to give it permission to access the internet once more. Try start Nexuiz, switch to windowed mode in the options/video menu and try THEN to find servers.
I hope those server mention that this is not the final verson but just a testing release so that people with 1.5 will not search too much for an update as there is none yet.. officially :)

  • Personal firewalls check if the executables have changed. So the permissions you gave Nexuiz 1.5 most likely aren't in effect for Nexuiz 2.0.

I'd disable *all* sort of personal firewalls when playing.

Eeeeeeeeek !!! I'd *never* give such an advise :)
A Firewall is protection after all and disabling protection is a bad idea. I would say the problem is however with the firewall as its not forcing a switch back to the desktop so the user can see the dialog asking for permission.. So other games should have the same problem.

However this firewall/serverlist problem should be added to the FAQ.. can you please do this? I can't because i am not at home.

  • I'll try it with the forumversion this evening and
i will test it under linux too ( ubuntu 6.06 ).
Probably it's really a firewallproblem ( who really knows whats going on in windows? )

Personal firewalls (that application centric stuff) are in most cases useless because either they restrict properly and annoy the user to hell or don't do anything good at all. If you have an exploitable service running on any port it's better to just install the patches provided - oh, and to keep your Antivirus software current.

I'd propose using proper port-centric firewall.

    Just my opinion.

Yeah but your last proposal was to just shutoff the firewall that's something very different :)
Well i would like to know if titi got it to run after all..

  • sorry for the late reply, the weather was too sunny.

    Now i did it!

    The problem was the binary!
I had some kind of pre-version of nexuiz2.0.
With this one networking doesn't work!

With the new download everything is fine for me!
    ( the killing has started :D )
