Nexuiz Ubuntu 8.1 64-bit Networking issue

If you've had any problems with Nexuiz, or would like to report bugs, post here.

  • When I click multiplayer and go to the Serves tab Ubuntu displays a balloon stating that Network Connection Autoeth0 is now disconnected. This just keeps looping and Nexuiz never displays Server info keeping me from playing online. Any help on this would be apprecciated.

BTW: I have searched these forums and Google and found no solution to this. Thanks in advance for any help you may provide.

  • Sorry no idea there.. using debian and its working fine..
However there is no way Nexuiz should be able to really cause this. Maybe its a very stupid message telling you that a firewall blocked nexiuz from "gaining access to the internet" in which case maybe you find a way to grant it?

  • Well I really would like to figure this out. It has something to do with the way Nexuiz opens the socket. Is there anyway to manually configure what ip address it attempts to open? I have upgraded to 9.04 (Jaunty) and still have this problem. It is basically restricted to this game. Funny thing is if I use XQF it will find servers for other games with no problem but when trying to find Nexuiz servers it has the same behaviour. Any ideas? Is there a dev on these forums who might have any clue what I can do? Again any help is appreciated. Just the prospect of playing this fast paced game with this tight community is exciting. BTW also using client 2.5.1 which is exact same result.

  • 1) Why the thing is called autoeth0? Where does auto come from? Which driver do you use?
    2) Darkplaces (Nexuiz engine) binds sockets same way as any other app there.
    Code: Select all
    bindresult = bind(lhnetsocket->inetsocket, &localaddress->addr.sock, namelen);

  • Autoeth0 is used only in the information balloon. It is actually eth0. Looking at the console in game it is binding to the localhost at 0.0.0.0:2 . Would this have anything to do with my issue?
Also the driver is the OS built in driver (forcedeth). I use a static IP since I run some other servers such as murmur for voice comms.

  • Unfortunately I only get this:

    vincemoralle@vincemoralle-desktop:~$ ping -f 192.168.1.2
    PING 192.168.1.2 (192.168.1.2) 56(84) bytes of data.
ping: cannot flood; minimal interval, allowed for user, is 200ms

I can reproduce it without nexuiz running by using XQF and trying to update the nexuiz master list.

  • sounds like a driver issue to me here's what i found on the ubuntu forums:

    auto eth0 error
I recently installed ubuntu 8.10 on my dell 1520 laptop however my ethernet port will try to connect for a few seconds then pop up with a message saying "The network connection has been disconnected". Does anyone know what is causing this, I have had 7.04 on the same computer before and it worked flawlessly.

edit: I set up a manual wired connection with the proper Netmask, IP, Gateway and DNS Servers. Also checked multiple cables problem still prosistes, other computers running win xp and lepord 10.5 work fine with the network. I dont know if it will help but I'm useing a bilkin G router model FSD7230-4

edit2: I ended up downloading the dell version of ubuntu 7.04 now it will connect to the network buy still can't get online, once again I dont know why, though this is father then i got before

the link to dells version of ubuntu is here http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu_7.04

edit3: SOLVED wow I am dumb didnt even think about adding the mac address to my routers filter settings until just now, it works now.

edit: does this still happen for you? I think you have to rename your connection or create a new one. The auto connections are somewhat read-only - until you renamed them.

  • Try sudo ping -f.

Probably some sort of driver bug then. You could send your bug report to kernel devs.

  • I think you may be right I am using fairly new hardware. This mobo is about a year old. I am going to try this with an add in NIC and see what happens. I will post results. BTW sudo ping -f will do the ping flood but never causes the disconnect. Heh wait nevermind I can't because this board only has one pci slot which is being taken up with an Audigy 2(no onboard sound came with ad in pci-e audigy 2 se for sound but has no hardware mixing). Maybe I can find a pci-e nic.

  • Ok. This may be a stretch but check this out. I have some games installed in cedega/wine. The games are Team fortress 2, COD 4, and City of Heroes. All of which work completely fine in online mutliplayer. I tried running the Nexuiz windows version in wine and got the same result as the linux version. Is this a problem with Nexuiz and forcedeth?
