  • Ok, I downloaded this and ran it on one of the Mac OS X's at my school today. It performed beautifully, and all of my friends nearby immediately wanted it. I congratulate you guys.

But, when I tried to place the same package on my computer at home, which is running Linux Ubuntu 7.10, I tried to play the campaign. Right off, during the console display, it started the server for maybe a split-second, and then gave me the message "client AntiCitizen One dropped". I tried both campaign sets, as well as Instant Action, and recieved the same error each time.

Any suggestions? I tried using both "nexuiz-linux-686-glx" and "nexuiz-linux-686-sdl", Both could open the menu, neither could play a game.

Any help is much appreciated, I love this game and can't wait to try out the newest weapons.

I do have Windows as well, if it's easier to just play Nexuiz in that (though I want to attempt to rectify Linux first).

  • Maybe you simply do not have 'real' 3d drivers installed. Most distributions use free drivers which lack 3d support but offen binary drivers from ati and nvidia and such..
    Try this in a terminal:
    Code: Select all
    glxinfo | grep -i 'string\|direct'

It should say something about direct rendering: Yes and your graphic card manufacturer.. If not find out how to install the matching binary driver for your card :)

  • I have an nVidia Geforce 7900 GT, so I won't be using any free drivers.

Thank you for the advice though. :) Any other ideas, please?

  • You won't be using free drivers? THERE ARE free drivers for nvidida cards.. thats why i asked you to run that command to make sure. Unless ofc you mean you KNOW that you installed the 'real' nvidia drivers..

Do you get some error message on the console when you run Nexuiz and it exits like that?

  • By "I won't" I meant "I am not currently". lol.

It doesn't really exit, per say, it just gives the "client dropped" error and stays in the console. When I press "Esc" it goes back to the main menu.

Nexuiz 2.4.2 worked on this PC, if that's any indication of how things are.

  • Are there any more error messages on the console when it "dropped" you? Can you maybe make a screenshot of the screen you get dropped to?

Do games started from the "Create" menu work?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • I seem to be unable to take a Linux-Shot, and the in-game screenshot seems to only work...well, in-game.

All it says aside from the "client dropped" is a lot of packet transfers. A short list of seemingly random symbols follows.

  • I'd need all the info on the screen.

Press F12 when you were dropped to the console, or type "screenshot" at the prompt and hit Enter.

Look in ~/.nexuiz/data/screenshots for the screenshot.

    Upload it.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

  • Would having the folder on my desktop have anything to do with it?

I can't seem to find the screenshot.

Such a nerd and I can't find a simple screenshot.

  • FOUND IT!

Forget the details, but I have it now.

And, new developments! I see the "Host_Error: CL_VM_Error: client: Program error in function CSQC_Ent_Update" now.

  • Normally this means your progs.dat and your csprogs.dat don't match each other. Normally this is caused by bad packages installed into ~/.nexuiz/data.

Can you, on a Terminal, do this:

    mv ~/.nexuiz ~/.nexuiz.orig

Then start Nexuiz again, and set up your player settings and key binds again. Does it work then?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

  • What goes in place of the "~"?

I have this folder on the Desktop. I don't even know where this ".nexuiz" file is.

Forgive me for being so ignorant.

  • You have some strange third party content installed.. The correct data for loading the CSQC part would be:
    CSQC dlcache/csprogs.dat.403140.50721 loaded (crc=50721, size=403140)

Please remove all extra pk3 files you might have from your data folder.. (including ~/.nexuiz/data !!!)
~/.nexuiz is a hidden folder in your 'home directory'
I think by default you need to enter this extactly like that into the 'goto location' dialog. Search the forum, there are several posts that explain this more exactly for mac people.. i do not own/use macs so i'm too lazy to check it out :)

Or rather den deleting those extra pk3 files move them to a save place so you still have them :P

  • Or, open a Konsole or a GNOME Terminal, and type:

    mv ~/.nexuiz ~/.nexuiz.orig

as is. That will clear your settings and downloaded/installed content, and let you start over. Then the problem is sure fixed.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

  • Well, I looked in my home folder, and found a hidden file called ".nexuiz.orig". I deleted it, and *pwah!* it worked! I was able to get to level 24 so far.

A note to the developers: I love this game, I love the new weapons. Well, well done. Everything's perfect...except one thing. I wish you guys hadn't dulled down the sound effects for the Electro, Hagar, and Rocket Launcher. Those sounded incredibly awesome on my PC's subs at around v2.4.0 I think. I was ever so slightly disappointed to find that the sounds aren't near as...hardcore. But alas, this is just the prattling of a nerd. I can't believe how awesome this game is in every other aspect. Again, well done.

  • You can adjust the level of the sounds. They're actually more detailed and realistic now.

  • I meant "bass-wise". They aren't quite as loud- and heavy-sounding.
