It's always a bit difficult with Dell or other manufactorers who avoid using standard components, what sometimes causes problms when changing built in stuff.

Nah, the geforce came built in.
Are we sure that weird Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility is the correct thing? It doesn't take very long to install, and doesn't tell me to restrt when it's done.

Anyways, you're saying I should go to the customer support, and ask them what my motherboard info is, and ask for the latest drivers for it?

You (or someone else) should delete this from your post because no one needs your windows xp product key to help you, and someone could use your key to activate a pirated copy of windows.

As for the chipset, it appears that the drivers I downloaded were correct. Any of the four, that is. For my chipset, thing thing says GL, G, GV, P, are all correct.

I haven't had any doubts about the correctness of the drivers![]()
Did You take a view on the drivers' dates and have You checked on the Intel site if there's anything newer? (sry, You didn't post anything about that)
The Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility installs the Windows* INF files. The INF files inform the operating system how to properly configure the chipset for specific functionality, such as AGP, USB, Core PCI, and ISAPNP services.

**Important**
The Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility provides _functionality_ for AGP and USB, _not_ AGP or USB drivers. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS UTILITY IF YOUR DEVICE MANUFACTURER IS RECOMMENDING IT TO CORRECT AN "AGP DRIVER," "AGP GART," OR "USB DRIVER" ISSUE; IT WILL NOT CORRECT YOUR ISSUE.

Hmm maybe you should take a look at the motherboard manufacturer homepage and serach for drivers there.

Urmel aus dem Eis wrote:Well, I would suggest to download and run a diagnostics software, such as Sisoft Sandra or somding like that. With a little luck You'll get the real manufacturer, better chipset infos and an overview for the installed drivers.
Still I have my doubts if sloggycrouton really installed any chipset drivers.
That Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility seems to be a Tool to be used for installing drivers, but that's not the drivers themself !! No way of a possibility to install new drivers without a reboot, they should have to initialise first IMO! Sure!
