  • Okay, from what I could tell, I have "Intel(R) 915 Express Chipset family". However, when I attempted to download files for this, I wasn't sure which ones I wanted, and it seemed like they were all the same.

  • How about the GF card? Was it in when You bought the PC? If not, I'd suggest You to change it to the old card and look if there's similar probs.

It's always a bit difficult with Dell or other manufactorers who avoid using standard components, what sometimes causes problms when changing built in stuff.

Nah, the geforce came built in.

Are we sure that weird Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility is the correct thing? It doesn't take very long to install, and doesn't tell me to restrt when it's done.

The thing with the driver install not taking long and not needing a restart usualy mean one of thise two things: Its the correct driver, but you computer alredly had teh seamr or a newr version installed. (computer keeps the alredy installed one) OR Its the wrong driver.

First picees of info we would need to confirm is: What Brand and model is the computer. Its a Dell so the forst part we know. The second part (model) is usualy stamped or similar somewere on the box itself.

With this info it should be possile to lookup what hardware this machine uses and then download the drivers for this hardware directly from the hardware mfg's.

    [m$ rant]
Its so sad.. that when one _dont_ need to restart windows one usualy asume the install faild >.<

  • There are several strings of numbers on the side of my dell, on a sticker. Three of them are labeled:

    Service Tag:898WM71

    Express Service Code: 17973412957

    Product Key: ????????????????????????????

*edit by esteel* Product key removed..

  • afaik You need the service tag for the online support. You can choose then to install a system profiler tool. When You got this, You should get a user-friendly, detailed information about Yer chipset. 915 Express family includes at least 4 chipsets.

  • Huh, how come this was so easy for you, but isn't working for me?

Anyways, you're saying I should go to the customer support, and ask them what my motherboard info is, and ask for the latest drivers for it?

Okay, I'll update when I get around to that. Not sure if it's worth it for just Nexuiz itself, but if it's going to harm other games too, I guess I'll have to. Were any other games affected, Urmel?

Nope, You don't have to. There's an online support where You can get that. But it's not really necessary. Just open Yer system control, open "System" and Your Hardware window (shit I dunno what is shown on english, french or whatever language screens). Maybe this looks familiar to You:

    Image

You can see there which Intel Chipset You actually have. Most important is the information about the processor to AGP Controller. Then go to the Intel HP, download all available drivers and install them.

If You have trouble w Nexuiz, You can of course get into trouble with other games. And one thing's for sure: Everything is worth doing for gettin Nexuiz running, no question :D

    Thanks.

As for the chipset, it appears that the drivers I downloaded were correct. Any of the four, that is. For my chipset, thing thing says GL, G, GV, P, are all correct.

I haven't had any doubts about the correctness of the drivers :)

Did You take a view on the drivers' dates and have You checked on the Intel site if there's anything newer? (sry, You didn't post anything about that)

  • yesterday i noticed left/right seperation was broken on my computer.. so thats why i sometimes thought my opponent was in the other direction. After an drivers update that now works.. but now front/back seems to be not ok.. this is ridiculous. Next time i'll think twice about using the on board 5.1 system.. and dell was supposed to sell good stuff

Maybe your problem is not with drivers after all. If they all installed nicely and seem to work.

No, the ones I have been downloading, that install ridiculously fast are from the intel site. They are these:

  • The Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility installs the Windows* INF files. The INF files inform the operating system how to properly configure the chipset for specific functionality, such as AGP, USB, Core PCI, and ISAPNP services.

I could be wrong, but I don't think this is a chipset driver. :?

  • From the link:
    **Important**
The Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility provides _functionality_ for AGP and USB, _not_ AGP or USB drivers. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS UTILITY IF YOUR DEVICE MANUFACTURER IS RECOMMENDING IT TO CORRECT AN "AGP DRIVER," "AGP GART," OR "USB DRIVER" ISSUE; IT WILL NOT CORRECT YOUR ISSUE.

Hmm maybe you should take a look at the motherboard manufacturer homepage and serach for drivers there.

Is my motherboard manufacturer dell or intel?

  • Hard to say if intel did provide the motherboard. Dell for sure did not they just buy stuff from others. I can't look up the HW config on the dell page, so maybe its best to take a look at the order list to see what hardware your computer has.

Well at least my sound driver problem seems to be solved now :)

  • Well, I would suggest to download and run a diagnostics software, such as Sisoft Sandra or somding like that. With a little luck You'll get the real manufacturer, better chipset infos and an overview for the installed drivers.

Still I have my doubts if sloggycrouton really installed any chipset drivers.

That Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility seems to be a Tool to be used for installing drivers, but that's not the drivers themself !! No way of a possibility to install new drivers without a reboot, they should have to initialise first IMO! Sure!

I got Sisoft Sandra, but I can't find any new info. It says the same thing about the chipset, and it doesn't help me any to get drivers.

  • Just to say, I'm n linux and i have a similar player related problem.

Without players I can get 150+ fps, with players, I usually top 20. It's actually playable, just very chunky.

  • I can also confirm the bug
I've experienced sudden drops from 500 to 10fps during matches
I'd be happy to run a profile build on my machine if you can send me the binary(win32)

My suspicions are that it's occuring in the local userspace, not a driver issue
I have experienced moments of "clarity" during matches when it suddenly clears up; I also have a feeling these were during moments of lag, but I can't confirm

I'd point the finger @ the source, not the system setup
ofcourse, this is all speculation until a profile can be ran. I'm open
