Starship slows game down-drops the fps like a bad habit

  • This has probably been mentioned before, but to give you an idea of how bad it is I will tell you that I MAX EVERYTHING (Insane on sliders, vsync, HDR, 32 bit, etc.) in this game and hold it at 32 fps on a 1280 x 1024 res without a single slowdown until I play Starship. When I get to Starship the game drops the fps like a bad habit (5-10 fps, 15 if I'm lucky) and I can't even use the Ultimate preset unless I switch to 16 bit on a 1024 x 768 res. Just thought somebody should make a bug report on this in case somebody wants to have a look at it.

    System
    -----------
    OS: Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit, was using 8.04 64 bit about a week ago
    CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 3.0GHz Black Edition, AM2 socket
    VGA: Sparkle Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX, 1GB, 256 bit set mostly to performance settings
    RAM: 4GB 1066MHz DDR2 in dual channel

  • Most other maps do not use reflections.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

    You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

    That's what I thought initially, however ruiner doesn't seem to be giving me any trouble... I'll double check my card settings to see if that helps.
