[BUG] Black Maps in 2.5.1 (after successful download)

If you've had any problems with Nexuiz, or would like to report bugs, post here.

  • This is something that has been reported to me recently by many users.
So far, this has affected both Windows and Linux users.

After a successful map download, the map still doesn't display.
It behaves as if the map didn't get downloaded, but it is downloaded successfully.

vid_restart in the console fixes the problem.

This began happening intermittently after 2.5.1.
I experienced it once last night for the first time. Some others were experiencing it more often.

<Polarina> When I join a multiplayer game, the maps are black. Why?
<eL_Bart0> sounds like you got an older gfx card to me, but on the other hand you say only in multiplayer games ... which makes me kinda wonder :o

<eL_Bart0> normally black maps are caused by a too low version of shader model supported by the gfx card, afaik
<slash\> eL_Bart0: your client is failing to download the map
<slash\> its not a gfx problem
<eL_Bart0> oh well, i never experienced this kinda problem, then ;)
<slash\> oops highlighted the wrong person :p
    <slash\> Polarina
<victim> Polarina: are you on Linux?
    <pavlvs> Polarina: yeah, what OS?
    <Polarina> victim: Yes.
    <Polarina> I have a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 512 with 173.14.09 driver.
    <pavlvs> probably need libraries?
    <eL_Bart0> hah, i got a 8800gt @ gts ;)
<Polarina> pavlvs: Everything else works fine.
<Polarina> pavlvs: I can see objects, players, just not the map itself and geometry.
<pavlvs> i dont know enough about linux to know what all the required libraries are called
<eL_Bart0> at least curl is needed
    <pavlvs> yeah
<eL_Bart0> for downloading stuff from the web as maps
<victim> then you need a special library , the name escapes me
    <Parp> hmm
    <Polarina> I have curl.
<Parp> did some nice frags tonight
<Dokujisan> Polarina, this is a common problem lately
    <Dokujisan> I think it's a 2.5.1 bug
<Parp> some vidz on youtube soon maybe
<Dokujisan> it gets fixed by vid_restart in the console
<pavlvs> curl, zlib, libjpeg, libogg, libvorbis, libvorbisfile, libmodplug, libpng
    <Dokujisan> the map is downloaded
    <pavlvs> ah
    <Dokujisan> but doesn't display
    <AnnKittyKat> rawr
<Dokujisan> it happened to me too recently, but also some others
<Dokujisan> I've been meaning to submit a bug report
    <Dokujisan> but I was busy
<Dib> or you could try the new more recent drivers
    <Dib> 180.44
    <victim> Polarina: you need libcurl
<eL_Bart0> that explains, why it never happened to me before ... coz i just updated to 2.51 today
<Dokujisan> it's affecting people with various video drivers
<pavlvs> its defeinitely not a driver issue
<Polarina> victim: I'll try installing that.
<Dokujisan> and it's not a curl issue. The map gets downloaded
<Dokujisan> though, Oh hai installed ubuntu for the first time and he needed to install libcurl3
    <Dokujisan> to download maps
<pavlvs> well, i had that isssue just now with DSN because i forgot to copy DLLs over :X
    * imaginary_ghost (~imaginary@jmagjnary.rit.edu) has joined #nexuiz
    <victim> sudo apt-get install libcurl3
<Dokujisan> but this issue with black maps (after successful download) is something else
<Polarina> victim: libcurl didn't do it.
    <Dokujisan> correct...libcurl3
<pavlvs> yeah it can happen with default maps :o
<Dokujisan> and this issue has happened on both Windows and Linux
<Dokujisan> I'm on vista, and someone else the other night was on linux
