  • ok, I'm a regular q3 and oa player (both get 100 fps), I just download nex hoping for an alternative to the two...
but as soon as I start up a game and hit the space bar (i think it's going between 4 fps and 30 fps depends on my settings) but it crashes as soon as i hit the space bar then move the mouse...
i'm running this on an ancient dell latitude c610 (laptop), with 512 ram and most recent video driver (plays q3 and oa fine), i set it to 800x600 with 16bit color and texture detail all the way down, as well as geometric detail. bloom, corona, and the others are unchecked, i've tried multiple things to fix this, having to change everything in the settings each time since it doesnt save the settings when it gets changed then crashes...

  • ok, that makes sense maybe i shoulda checked the requirements...

    low quality
    - 1 Ghz Pentium III or AMD Athlon
    - Geforce2 Video card
    - 512 MB of ram

it should run (with low fps) not crash... but, i would rather not play a game at 30 fps anyway

  • What's your OS and video specs? if other OpenGL games run fine (OpenArena is one such game, IIRC), then it would be great if you could provide a debugger backtrace for the crash. Darkplaces runs just fine on horrible, horrible hardware like mine, so it can probably be tweaked to run on yours.

  • It does have ATi Radeon Mobility graphics. This is likely to be the problem. The drives for this will be worse than even ATi's normal drivers. Linux might actually be better than Windows so long as you still with the free 'radeon' driver.

Try exiting immediately after applying settings. This will save them. Also try lowering settings even further manually:

  • Not necessarily, updated Catalyst drivers can be installed via modification.
