  • Whenever I click "create" then click "start muliplayer," it's always a local game and my friend can't find it. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong :?:

  • sv_public 1 ?
I'm not sure, i don't know much about servers :)

I guess your friend would get a very high ping anyway..

But you can play at a private 1on1 server

    ladder.tchr.no:26000
    ladder.tchr.no:2600
    ladder.tchr.no:26002
    planetnexuiz.de:26500
    planetnexuiz.de:26501
    delight.vapor.com:26500
    delight.vapor.com:26501

you have to type in the console this for example:
    Code: Select all
    connect delight.vapor.com:26501
    and press enter.

  • Keep in mind that the performance on servers run by that "create" option is quite low. The ideal solution is using the dedicated server binary.

Running a listen server on your client generates lag when your fps is low on the client, which is kinda lame :p
    Meh.

The problem is, I don't know how. Here are the steps I took:

    1. I edited server.cfg by changing some values and deleting the "//" before the ones I changed.
    2. I copied server.cfg into the data folder.
    3. Then I doubleclicked server_mac.sh, because I have a mac, and it didn't work.

I'm probably doing something wrong here, but I don't know where. :|

  • Try running it from the console, to see if it throws some errors (I don't know how to do that on macs, though)
    Meh.

  • Weren't you just on Mac OS X?

On Windows, read the instructions in the server/ directory. There is a .bat file there for you.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • div, but if the server exits immediately, the console disappears

In windows, just open the bat file, add a new line at the end:
    Code: Select all
    pause

For linux/mac I guess the simplest way would be
    Code: Select all
    exec /bin/sh

(anyone knows a POSIX way to wait for input? :p)
    (is "read" POSIX?)

EDIT: so yeah, "read" is POSIX, so for linux/mac add these lines at the end of the .sh file launching the server:

    Code: Select all
    echo "Press enter to continue..."
    read foo
    Meh.
