  • Hi!

I want to report some irritating sound bugs.. dunno if someone else has posted something like this (couldn't find it anyway) but here it goes.

When I play (obvious) I can hear sounds from other people killing each other from just about anywhere in the world of Nexuiz. I mean, they can come from left, right, top, bottom and also outside the map. And I can hear them very clearly as if I was just standing beside them, but when I turn and run around they are miles away from me.

I've fixed the left, right bugs, but most of the sounds still come outside of the map (unless I stand right beside someone, then it's normal). That confuses the hell outta me and I cannot any longer relay on the sound :p So I've been playing techno on high volume instead ^_^

That's basicly all, I could go in details but you get the picture.. they come from whereever they feel like.

  • Try running nexuiz -sndstereo. That forces stereo, does it make any difference?

  • -sndstreo should not be needed in 2.0 as the autoprobing is much better. check your audio settings, and see if you run with more sound channels than speakers.

  • I noticed some strange sounds as well in the campaign on Running Man (1on1). It sounds like a woman with high heels is following me all the time.

These are supposed to be the footsteps sounds.

But now you know why they aren't enabled by default... ;)
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • No, -sndstereo does not work. Anyone that can help me? It's starts to bug the hell outta me. This can give false sounds which makes me getting killed. Like for instance when people jump on those jump pad that give out that sound, from time to time they sound like they are just beside me but when I turn there are none... and now that I've gotten used to that I normaly don't turn when I hear those right next to me.. and now it just happened that there was a guy and killed me >.<

I wonder it if can be the soundcard, I've played Warsow and maybe it's the same thing there (haven't really had time to check that further yet). But other games and such are ok (as far as I know, when I get time I'm gonna x-ray the sound card ^_^)

But just to give you heads up, it might be the game.

Can you make a demo which makes you hear e.g. rocket explosions from the wrong direction or at the wrong volume?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

  • Old thread and no bug report in bugtracker seen... so, did anyone actually figure out how to fix the problem? :P

With 2.4 and the latest hotfix I'm still having the same problems as the OP. I've tried with both SB Audigy and ESI Juli@ - on Windows. Couldn't get it to run on Linux (some weird permission denied errors) so can't say if it works there.

  • Actually if you look at the date thats almost two years ago. Either its something new or the detection of our sound card does not work right. Try nexuiz.exe and nexuiz-sdl.exe often one of both works better. Also try to play around with the sound testings in 'settings/misc' especially the channels and frequency. For example the 5.1 sound in my desktop computer is broken for ALL games when i try to use 5.1 sound.. the 'back' channel is just silent. Maybe its something similar for you that corrupts the sound mixing..

  • Naturally, I have tested everything possible: SDL exe, different channel setups (in reality I have stereo), the -sndstereo parameter, different sampling rates... none of which worked.

I did notice it was a two-year-old thread and hearing the same problems as described I was even wondering if it's a "well known" bug as no conclusion was made in the thread :?

Guess I'll have to try the Linux version if it has the same problems. Anyone know what the mysterious "permission denied" error on Linux Nexuiz startup is? (file/device/bash permissions are ok, it's not that.)

    Edit:
My relevant system configuration: Windows XP Pro SP2, Soundblaster Audigy ES (not SE), ESI Juli@. The Linux is newest Xubuntu.

I have both soundcards hooked up - is Nexuiz compatible with this in Windows? I've tried both cards as default device, but it didn't help.
