  • ds01 wrote:@tehtux did you try increasing your res on the higher-end machine? Even a GF 5900-FX ultra is faster at 1280x1024 than it is at 640x480.

I did (much the same results), though I didn't post them. I ran the tests at 1280x1024 16bit, no effects and lowest quality. The 2500+ handled itself quite well, posting good numbers though still being effected greatly once a character came into view. The 3200+ 64 bit struggled, though performed roughly the same as at 640x480...

The reason why I kept it so low in the res was to stress the CPU more than the GPU, as the CPU's are *kinda* close in Mhz, though one's 64 bit and one's 32 bit. The GPUs are WAY different, and I didn't want to affect the results too much. A 1600x1200 test would kill the GeForce2 Pro, though the 6600GT would be ok.

  • divVerent wrote:Yes, you would need to install the 32bit version of libSDL (on Fedora: yum install libsdl.i586). Or use the glx build.

    and...

No, but it would help for testing.

Do you know what the deb package is? I tried to apt-get libsdl.i586 but it couldn't find the package...Any ideas?

As for the testing, I use the the 64 bit machine as my main machine at home, so I cannot afford big downtime. The 2500+ is actually my server (hence the 3GB ram) so I've already spent some time backing everything up, reinstalling a new distro and getting it all ready for testing, I unfortunately can't spend too much more time on testing :(

If anyone has some 64 bit hardware around and can try to confirm or deny that the 64 bit Nexuiz is suffering OR can do more testing to try and work out what is causing slower than expected FPS it would be greatly appreciated!!

Offtopic: plain DM is the the default for instant action. If it's not default for your, try to restart nexuiz (gamemode/mutator cvars are not saved by default, so that should reset everything).

  • I have an athlon64 3000+ (venice core)
    7600gt
320GB seagate sata hard drive the latest model (7200.10 or something) - this is formatted with the windows xp default file system (ntfs or something) which xp and nexuiz is installed on
and a 200GB maxtor sata hard drive - this is formatted with the old windows 98 (fat32) file system

I'm running xp professional with sp2 and my video card drivers are the latest version forceware 91.31

My fps on 800*600 and exec low.cfg are 250-400 but as soon as someone comes near me it drops to 40-50fps

My fps on 800*600 and exec ultra.cfg are 50-60fps but again wen some one comes near me it drops to 10-30fps

This does not apply to spectating view though, in spectating view even when watching 2 ppl shooting at each other the fps don't drop and stay at the high values.

Hmm interesting that it only gives problems when playing.. Noone else has reported this little fact so far. (Or i really missed something :) ) The only difference i can think of between playing and spectating is that cl_movement is disabled when spectating..

Can you test if cl_movement 0 helps? Just open then console with shift-escape and enter the bold text. 1 instead of 0 will set it back to the default if it does not help.

Do you also have fps drops when watching demos? demo1 included with Nexuiz features many bots/players at once is it ok to watch? I would expect it to run without problems if spectating also does not give problems..

Also have you tried both nexuiz.exe and nexuiz-sdl.exe? Maybe one runs better then the other..

  • Qantourisc: Do you have those fps problems also only when playing and not when spectating? If yes could you please test those things i mentioned in my previous post?

Other then that the only cause for those problems seem to be APG problems.. at least a person reported a improvement after updating the motherboard-chipset drivers..
It can only speculate as i never had those problems.. Someone wants to send me his computer? :)

  • i was mistaken, it still occurs when spectating from another players perspective, but the effect seems lessened when u are spectating from the position u die.

  • OS: Ubuntu 6
    CPU: AMD 1200 MHz

HDD: 120 GB , ide, whatever

Slow fps in general with low fps spikes. Other games (Warsow and Tremulous) work fine on this comp.

    Ooops!

I just buy this card 3 moths ago because was cheapo and my older card whas a ATI 9800XT and whas dificult to configure on Linux.

What 3D card you suggest for Linux? (Nvidia please)

  • I'm not totaly up to time with all this hardware stuff. I got myself a 6600gt for 150euros a few months ago. Its very good for Nexuiz and i can even play quake 4 with it. But if you buy something new you maybe should look for something like a passivly cooled 7600/7800.. Not sure about the price though :)

Try disabling "OpenGL 2.0" shaders in the Effects menu. The FX line of cards is usually too slow to use those.
