Hello world,
Since the beginning of the week , I try to play Nexuiz on Windows 2000 pro
I've tried to play with the compiled Game , it didn't works
So , I decided to compile this game on Windows 2000 using the "Nexuiz SVN Build System"
based on a build.bat which compile everything for the game

SO , my problem is that when I start the game , my Operating system tell me that:

The procedure entry point RtlIpv4StringToAddressW could not be located in the dynamic link library ntdll.dll


I've tried to copy ntdll.dll from the internet on the root directory of the game , but I've still the same error

Nexuiz doesnt support win2000 anymore. Anyways, you can start it when you use a old binary. (nexuiz.exe of 2.5.1). That is for sure not the best solution, but it works. I just want to warn you, you should know some console commandos when doing that, because you will get some error messages and arent able to use the menu when you connected to a 2.5.2 server.

This is news to me. What prevents running on Win2K? This seems unusual given that Win2k is near identical to XP, it just doesn't look like it was designed by Fisher Price.

Windows 2000 support (as well as Windows 9x) was phased out with the implementation of ipv6. Windows XP included ipv6 support, Windows 2000 did not.
Windows 2000 may or may not work with the following patch: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en however, Win9x has no such patch. Please note, Microsoft does not consider this patch "production" quality.

I had to hexedit the file to get it installed on win2k SP4, anyways, it doesnt help

No, support for Windows 2000 has not been phased out, Windows compatibility goes all the way back to win9x and I see no reason to change that.

Is there still the strange behaviour on 9x where multiple items appear in the Taskbar when starting and when changing video modes?

Is testing of Darkplaces/Nexuiz still done on older versions of Windows? To maintain support, there does need to be testing of the engine under these environments.

Windows 2000 is entirely different from 9x/ME, despite the similarity in name. XP Home is technically more like 9x than Windows 2000. Hence software that runs on XP but not on Windows 2000 is extremely rare which goes some way to explain why almost all drivers are the same for 2000/XP and why the secuity of Windows 2000 got much worse after the release of XP when novice users of XP became a major target for virus writers.

It's not uncommon for commercial software to cut off support for older operating systems deliberately but I see no reason to do that for open source. Commercial software does it as warranting software for use on an unsupported environment is a liability problem. As open source software is released 'as is' with nothing warranted, we have no liability.
